How do you feel about Apple (the company that makes iPhones, not any sort of fruit etc)?

I really like them and buy all their products.
I like them and think they're a good company.
I like them.
I don't care either way.
I do not particularly like them.
I dislike them.
I detest Apple and go out of my way to tell people how terrible their products are.

Everyone knows Macs are fashion accessories- that's why they cost more.  You buy a MacBook so you can sit in a coffeeshop and be all like "I don't know whether to write a novel, work on my band's songs in GarageBand, or look up local tattoo artists right now..."

And if that's your personality, more power to you.  But if you're interested in a computer that is actually powerful/versatile/cheap/etc, apple is probably not the best choice.

You can buy a gucci jacket that looks great and makes you feel confident, or you can go to sears and get a hardcore industrial worker  jacket that's twice as warm and half the price.  Different strokes for different folks.
@ GTM
you're trolling. "everybody knows" is completely wrong, and the stereotypes you present are disgusting, cookie-cutter, and just wrong.

I don't think this is trolling as I agree with this. Majority of my friends or people I know with apple products other then the basic ipod touch or ipod have more money then they need. They see the products as fashionable and cool, because they want to play Angry Birds or some dumb app and impress their friends. They cost more because they can charge more and still make money (basic buisness). Apple is a very smart company, they have the best marketing Ive ever seen, they appeal to the masses(mostly idiots) and they do it well, very damn well..

Anyways if I want anything serious, I would for smart phones go Android/Blackberry and if its a PC I would go with a build by my local store with parts and specs I specify and a very lightweight Linux desktop. Anyways I hate apple because I find everything they have is far to restricting and far to heavy on my PC (I don't need the looks, I just want music on my ipod nano) and tends to put itself into my computer and I cant get it to stop(such as itunes wont stop running different processes in the background even if I kill them) and I find their products used by generally stupid rich kids, and I tend to steer my friends away from apple as much as possible.

Now if I was a graphics artist I guess a mac would be appropriate, but seeing as how I like play DF, programming apps and stocks, I would never consider Apple products.

Just because you agree with it does not make it a useful post, nor does it negate the controversy that could ensue from it. I could go into a thread talking about Twighlight only to say that it's a stupid movie and Edward Cullen is gay. He's not gay, and regardless of how stupid the movie is, it's not a useful post.

I'd reply to the rest of the post too, but it's all opinion so there's nothing to refute. I have very different experiences though with apple and the mac users - they're often the more intelligent people I know, and particularly so when talking about computers.

Actually not trolling.  For background, I have an iPhone that I love to death, and a lot of my closest people have MacBooks (or whatever the latest apple laptops are).

The thing is, I know that blackberry and droid are better than my iPhone.  But when I'm getting girls' digits, I don't want a nerd phone, I want a cool phone.  I realize I sound like a Neanderthal and I'm tempted to apologize, but it is what it is.  Meanwhile, the computer in my room is totally patched together from parts and runs Linux, because I'm interested in performance and value, not in making a fashion statement.

Ultimately, apple gives you less bang for your buck.  By objective benchmarks, they're just not good.  You could make the argument that they come bundled with software artists would buy otherwise, and that their proliferation in the world of art/design makes it easier for fans to send each other files, etc, and I wouldn't argue with that at all.

I don't mean to offend anyone and I certainly don't want to start a flame war, but I'm of the belief that some products derive their value simply from social value of brands and that apple is among them.  Yes, old benchmarks showed that a Mac g4 1.8 ghz was as powerful as a pentium 4 3.6 ghz or whatever, but that was years ago.

If this turns into a lame argument I'm going to step out since I don't want to lower the intelligence level of these forums, but please consider the uncomfortable truths I offer.

See GTM, now that was a better post :). It explains the position a lot better, and also explicitly states that it's your opinion, and the way you view apple products. You specifically buy them for fashion. I personally don't, and I haven't met many people who do.

I disagree with the objective benchmark statement, as it really depends on what company and specific product you're comparing it too. I gave links earlier to compare two super-similar computers where apple was equal if not a bit better priced. I bought my computer from the other btw, as Puget has a good reputation for reliability and customer service. However, If we're comparing it to bargain-basement or self-built, of course it can't compete. Apple is a for-profit company that does a lot more than assemble parts. Even if they did just assemble parts though, we can compare any product and have big brands sound silly when compared to home made or cheap brands.

I personally don't, and I haven't met many people who do.

Doing so is apparently extremely popular in Europe.

Anyway, mac are an easy way to have "good enough" quality even if you know nothing, and are fashion.
Nowadays they are declining, especially quality wise, but still not too bad. Their battery live on laptop, especially is a ver strong point in their favor.

Buying a mac desktop is usually a bad move, as they are very overpriced, but can be justified if everything else you have in your company is mac too. Ho, and the image gain can be worth it.

Now if you will, let's take our pitchfork and torch, and burn all this locked down privateer crap for the glory of the free software revolution.

Yes, but the albums he did with his brother are refreshing, especially "eat a peach".

I am not much of a fan of Apple.  I find they make inferior, overpriced products and call them revolutionary and people will constantly tell me that any real computer user would buy them.  And I'm still wondering how improving the screen of the iPhone was so "revolutionary".  Apple also has an unfortunate tendency to be a control freak.

Also, Apple can't develop PC programs (though I can't really gripe as much about that as their ability to screw up Mac stuff).  I used to use iTunes to organize my music.  It was slow, buggy, and uninstalling it was never good for my computer.  I finally gave up on it after I discovered that it was impossible to install on my computer anymore (because I tried to uninstall it) and I discovered Songbird.

Also, their attempts to get me to download Safari with each iTunes update were aggravating.

But you can't do that from the privacy of your home :/

I'm going to be honest here.  I'm not a fan of apple, but I would kill for a desktop monitor with the iphone's ppi.  Those screens are downright sexy.

You'd need a 3840*2400 for a tiny 14.1 inch monitor to get a similar PPI. I don't think many computers would even be able to run very well at that resolution (gaming too), let alone on a 21-27 inch monitor of that pixel density.

I know, I can dream though.  I don't play too many games anymore aside from dwarf fortress anyway.
