you're trolling. "everybody knows" is completely wrong, and the stereotypes you present are disgusting, cookie-cutter, and just wrong.
Actually not trolling. For background, I have an iPhone that I love to death, and a lot of my closest people have MacBooks (or whatever the latest apple laptops are).
The thing is, I know that blackberry and droid are better than my iPhone. But when I'm getting girls' digits, I don't want a nerd phone, I want a cool phone. I realize I sound like a Neanderthal and I'm tempted to apologize, but it is what it is. Meanwhile, the computer in my room is totally patched together from parts and runs Linux, because I'm interested in performance and value, not in making a fashion statement.
Ultimately, apple gives you less bang for your buck. By objective benchmarks, they're just not good. You could make the argument that they come bundled with software artists would buy otherwise, and that their proliferation in the world of art/design makes it easier for fans to send each other files, etc, and I wouldn't argue with that at all.
I don't mean to offend anyone and I certainly don't want to start a flame war, but I'm of the belief that some products derive their value simply from social value of brands and that apple is among them. Yes, old benchmarks showed that a Mac g4 1.8 ghz was as powerful as a pentium 4 3.6 ghz or whatever, but that was years ago.
If this turns into a lame argument I'm going to step out since I don't want to lower the intelligence level of these forums, but please consider the uncomfortable truths I offer.
