Meh. I don't really care one way or another, but for all the people whining about Apple fanboys, Microsoft has its fanboys as well, and normal people that use Apple are definitely hassled whenever they have a problem with it.

I don't really care for Apple computers, and i don't have an Iphone. I have however owned a variety of Ipods.  I have a first generation shuffle that I've had for 5 years, which has survived two trips through the wash with no problems ever. I have a 4 year old 8gig nano that was used and abused for 4 years and finally started to give way, although it still works fairly well. I have a several month old Ipod 160gig which so far works perfectly.

I really like itunes too. The only time that it has not worked for me was one update a few months back, that had random ctds. However it was fixed pretty quickly so it wasn't a problem.

I do hate apple fanboys though.

What I'm getting from this thread is that Apple has great PR people, fair to poor computers, and extremely reliable ipods and other devices... and that even the people who love these devices and use them every day tend to hate the apple fanboys.

<3 you guys.

Don't buy into their PR.
Yes the ingredients before drying weigh more than after. That doesn't make the final product contain 150% unless you start including -% of water... ¬_¬

The only Apple product I owned was an iPod Shuffle, which I got as a gift. I lost it and bought an MSI MP3 player. It worked just as well as the iPod, and it cost literally 1/10 of the iPod's price. If I had used iTunes the MSI player would've been better hands down, but luckily I found a small program that allowed me to transfer songs to iPod like I'd do it with any normal mp3 player. Still, my view is that Apple products have niceish design, but it's nowhere near enough to justify the price. Add software straitjackets to consideration, and Chinese knock-offs are the obvious choice. I've had good experience with MSI products in particular, got their set of speakers five years ago and they're still working perfectly.

I'm curious how you define "works just as well", and what product you were using specifically. I mean, technically I could say my nook works "just as well" as my wife's iPod touch for playing music - better even since it supports ogg vorbis format. However, it's not exactly user friendly, it's huge, and their isn't even playlist support.

I'm curious if by "works just as well" you're making a comparison on par with winamp versus iTunes. Yeah, it gets the job done in a way, but it's missing all the niceties.

It has all the feature that my iPod Shuffle had, namely Play, Pause, Skip/Fast Forward, Skip Backwards/Reverse, Shuffle/Play in Order and On/Off  :P Battery life was also comparable, so I really don't see how the iPod could've been better in any way.

iTunes was a hideous mess, I deleted it as soon as I found that small program that let me transfer songs via Windows' standard copy/paste.

iTunes is one of the biggest reasons that I won't use Apple's products.

I'd say my Cowon S9 works just as well or even better than iPod Touch. It has a better screen (AMOLED to LCD). It supports flac, ape, and ogg audio formats as well as mkv, ogm, and flv video formats. It has drag and drop functionality. An equalizer. Oh and it has volume buttons for when the screen is locked

The only things the iPod really has on it is that the iPod has a multitouch screen. And internet access, if that's your thing.

I don't own any Apple products.

They seem to have good quality, but I'm not going to pay a premium for the Apple brand.

Looking the Cowon S9 up on amazon, it's pretty awesome looking, and I think I'd buy that over an iPod touch.

It's not exactly 1/10th the price though at $172 / $215 for the different versions. If you take away the integrated HD video camera (go back to the 3rd generation iPod), the price is very similar. And, of course, it can't have any of the iPod /iPhone apps either.

EDIT: not exactly the same price, a 3rd gen iPod touch 32 GB is $185 used, $250 new. So it's in the same ballpark
