Hey I remember seeing something like this that's extremely similar (even looks almost the same), except it was a flight simulator (though with space & solar system type modes optional, or you could just ignore the assigned missions and blast off to mars or something). It was intended for education purposes, and the interface was highly obtuse.

I'm a huge fan of orbiter, although I've switched back to atmospheric flight sims for the moment.

Everyone should check out the Delta Glider IV by DanSteph, as well as his other add-ons.

I just wish I wouldn't have to open a port for OMP to work  :-\

I love the game. Had to spend more time groking the physics involved in various maneuvers than actually flying, but it's immensely satisfying when you do get it, and are able to perform these by heart.

I'd just like to finally see the interactive 3D cockpit for the Ravenstar.

Man I love this game.  Seriously one of the biggest time sinks but VERY rewarding in my opinion.

When I first was able to launch the DGIV, dock at the ISS, then re-enter the atmosphere and actually land on a designated airstrip, I was so happy I punched my Grandma in the face.

Actually quite easy, comparatively. You want damned hard space sims, go back to Microsoft Space Simulator. Or, hell. Frontier: First Encounters. The only help you get there is a speed indicator, and an altitude indicator.

At least with most of orbiter's spacecraft you get a nifty set of computers and instruments that tell you exactly where you are and exactly what your orbit looks like and exactly what the orbits of everything else look like, and some of the instruments can even do all the calculations for you and simply tell you when to fire your engines. (if you know how to use the instruments, that is. simply knowing which buttons to push can be difficult on its own.)

I've played frontier. It is not hard. It is fun however :D
