Would be a good game if it didnt have a gamekiller bug that basically lets the Allies get 20:1 kill rates even 43. Or at least forces Axis to pull back out of P-38's range, but the AI never does that.

edit: I played this game in PBEM for almost a year and 150 turns. We had to quit it. There were too many bugs, too many things mysterious things the manual said nothing about and developers told us to "keep guessing" about. It is said nowhere even that the Fw 190 and Spitfire LF V start to lose performance above 20,000ft. It doesnt help to claim "we have more altitude bands than witp" if there is no way in hell the player can ever see them.

edit2: and the P-47s. Those things just rape the Luftwaffe 50:1. You can try massing 300 109s and 190s against 40 P-47s, they can push them to the deck and keep bouncing, but the only side that takes more than half a dozen losses is always Luftwaffe.

sorry, but edit3: make it 2 game-killing bugs. You get a virtual cookie for each.  :)

I will test dis. Mission 1 I'll do a single massive raid and see if I can bulldoze my way to Berlin  :P and destroy the German airforce, hoho. Fighter sweep.

If your plane gets shot down, blame Erkki  :P

A-20s to Amsterdam, heavy Spitfire escort.

P-47s sweep at CEILING, 2 different sweeps, targets are little south to amsterdam. The patrol points however, set one above Vorden airfield and the other over whateevr is the field in Amsterdam.

If you time it right, thats 0 to 1 losses for about 30 kills.

edit: nope, havent played the operational art of war,

I think you guessed the issues already;

1) overpowered sweeps... I'm perfectly OK with them being able to shoot landing planes. But why dont the 600 flak guns I have there shoot back? Dont the guys evade or shoot back? Cant they be diverted? Waypoint over the field they strafe, patrol point over it they kill landing planes - even from ceiling(!).

2) Bomber Command can strike precision targets. Real, real "fun" when you lose at least 1 aircraft factory a night and your Bf 110s are lucky to even SEE an RAF bomber. Ju 88s do much better but you still cant stop them. 10 units can attack 10 different targets and hit them all. Also, during night time, killing landing interceptors is even easier then day time, because flak doesnt shoot even if the plane was patrolling at 300ft. Or lets say that it doesnt if you do it right.  ;)

After finding out those issues I became really disappointed of the game. What is sad is that Matrix doesnt have the will to fix them. Quite the opposite with the developers nearly attacking the critics.

Attacked Amsterdam airfield with two fighter sweeps of spits and P-47 at maximum altitude, lost 18 killed 10 overall.

Granted I had over 100 fighters in two sweeps, thats pretty good. I did notice the ceiling thing, lol. I assume they dive down to attack the airfield rather than teleport from 30k feet.

I'ma try me a night berlin mission. 300 bomber mission  :P

It seems ok to me, maybe If I make some ground rules it wont have any probs at all.

Example - no FIGHTER sweeps of airfields.

*Also I lost a P-47 or two to flak.

Aircraft losses to AA 2:70

**I'll disallow all fighter SWEEPS. Only bombers can damage stuff. We have enough. Escorts are fine. Fighter escorts can attack bombing targets though.

Is that a ratio? 2 lost by flak for every 70?

Testing bombing Harburg oil refinery outside hamburg.

Jeessuusssss lost 78 bombers out of 300 or so. Despite P-47 'Axis gibber's, only downed a handful of axis planes. Totally destroyed the oil refinery though :D

Ok Rifles it is. We will do the battle of Bullrun first, players can be eitherside. Union or Confederate.

Bullrun(Known as 1st Manassas by the Union) was the first major battle of the American civil war and it ended in a Confederate victory after he Union army was stopped around Henry House Hill by A general named Jackson. He became a legend therafter and feared by the Union army until he was killed in a friendly fire incident in 1863(I believe!).

A clip from 'Gods and Generals' chronicling the fight at Henry house Hill by Jackson.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucrVfUr4_ZA

I'll add a list of generals in a sec.

Some info: Formations are important.

Single line: better firepower
Double line: equal firepower and melee focus
Assault column: melee focus
Column: marching focus
Dig in: begins to entrench in the direction facing.
Get on/off horse: obvious. On artillery it limbers/unlimbers the arty.
Disorganised: moves reasonable, terrible combat attributes. If unit is routed it will form this formation.

I love cavalry. It is just so much fun to charge to our deaths to save many of our allies lives.
