Your talking about the dark ages, when attacks by barbarians and plauge were normal. You were much more likely to die of either plauge or getting your head chopped off then dieing of old age. But, if you were lucky and got to live your full life, then you'd still live to around late-50's or early-60's.

The Feudal ages was when Feudalism was the main form of goverment. Feudalism is a system was when a very powerful man offered to protect peasents from attacks in return for work. Because some guy with a massive army was protecting them, more people died of natural causes, which is, as I said eariler, around your late-50's or early-60's.

So in context, your character is still very young.
