Rush up the stairs, jump over the pressure plate on the first step, and claim a chest.

There are no chests left, I took all the remaining ones. You can't claim a chest! HA!
Errr.... You sorta can't claim all the chests you know...

Why not?

For two reasons, the primary one is that was how it was in the last dungeon escape game that spade did, and i don't see any reason why he would have changed it, so its probably the same. The second reason is that i imagine that we would all be running to the chests (the turns all sorta happen at the same time, but i think whoever answers first starts running or reacting soonest or something) trying to get the stuff out. If someone went "i claim them all", i would ignore him and open a chest anyways. And the third reason is that it would just be unfair if i went "i claim them all" and get 6 pieces of equipment.

If you want a chest, why not fight me for it?

Because you are unsporting and selfish.
Seriously. You can't reserve them for yourself.

I'm not reserving them, I just got to them first.

It's extremely unlikely you can open six chests at once. I guess you'd only be opening two or three at once in this particular case, but the point still stands- if my turn included opening all the chests, pushing all the buttons, tripping all the pressure plates, and then exiting up the ladder, it's highly unlikely I'd actually be able to do all that, and thus my claims that I'd already "claimed the dungeon" would be false.

Actually, I only claimed two, as only two were unopened when I posted, so, I could have run past, hit the button, looked to see if the door opened, then ran up, opened a chest with each hand and then run back down to check what was in the door.

Pretty simple, actually.

The way the last DE worked was that everyone moved at the same time.
The person nearest a chest would reach that chest before anyone else, but opening the chest was a full-turn action.
That may have changed for this DE, I don't know.

The game goes by a first-post, first-action system. If you want to get to that chest first, post it before everyone else.

You're assuming quite a bit about how many actions you can take in a turn. The notion that the number of hands you have free affects the number of chests you can open at once is particularly suspect.

Do you need both hands to lift a small, wooden box? Nope. The chest lids are just bended lengths of wood, not hard to lift, and running past and pressing a button at the same time are easy, havn't you ever walked across a hall and turned on a light as you walked?

We're stick figures in a two-dimensional castle; talking about realism probably isn't especially relevant. For the sake of turn sanity and avoiding endless conditionals, it's probably safe to assume you can do one "thing" in a round.

If we were going to talk about realism anyway, however, those are not "small" wooden boxes, and depending on the type of wood and make of the hinges could be fairly heavy. Given that they seem to have rounded tops with their backs to the wall, its entirely possible you'd need both hands and a shoulder to open them and extract the loot, since otherwise it'd just close the second you let go.

Pressing a button would also slow you down from what you could do without pressing the button, so the notion that you can hit it on your way up and then do more than everyone else in the same time span is laughable. This is also why it's unreasonable to assume you can dash up and down stairs while snatching loot on the fly in the same amount of time everyone else takes to just go up and open one box.

Still, I don't see why I can't just open two chests at once :/
