I am gonna make a megaproject. What stone do I take?
« on: February 13, 2011, 06:02:14 pm »

I will do a megaproject soon, and I must choose a stone to do it. I thinked for a long time about obsidian, but I don't know... Is there any stone (that forms layers, because I will need a lot) more awesome than the obsidian?

Jet or Gabbro. It's dull, bleak and gray, Just like fortress life!

If you're to use precious metal blocks in your giant monument, consider themes and colour schemes.

Gold is traditionally a metal more associated with the day and happy things. So use light coloured stones with it. Gold and Marble for example.

Silver is a more sombre metal, associated with the night, death and all things morbid. So use it with darker stones, like Obsidian or Jet. (Jet is good, because in real life it's used as jewellery. Seriously, look up 'Jet Jewellery' on Google Images)

But gold can work with darker stones too, because it creates a nice contrast. Silver however, doesn't contrast that well with lighter stones.

Gold.  Buy it one block and one bar at a time from caravans, if you must!

I like the combination of gold and adamantine, myself. Maybe with a bit of rose gold too.

I'd go with obsidian, silver and gold, personally.  They should all be sufficiently abundant if you have any kind of half-decent magma forges set up and obsidian is farmable on every map (though this certainly isn't easy).

You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

obsidian is farmable on every map

Water is not guaranteed. You can get screwed by this if you're in a tundra and all your caverns turn out to be empty of water.

Yes, this has happened to me.

Wow, caverns with no water at all?  Mine are usually almost completely full.
