(continued from 20th granite)
Anyway, I want to get started on operation siege, but I’m not sure if I’ll even have time in the next season, let alone this year!

Okay, I’ll admit that I was kind of dumb assuming that the above ground water reservoir was a soon to be farm, but I didn’t notice that it was near a floodgate next to the trade depot. That’s because there’s no way that it could ever get filled. It would all evaporate before long. I’ve cut anything having to do with it.

While I was walking down the hall today, a member of the new military suddenly came out of nowhere, plowed right through me, and ran into the workshops

Angry that he wasn’t training for any elven invasion that may happen at any moment, I angrily picked myself up and stormed into the workshop area only to find that he kicked everyone else out of the craftsdwarf shop and was now collecting materials for an artifact.
If you ask me, I think he just doesn’t want to train.
The food stockpiles are already finished, or should I say finally finished? The work on the new workshop area is progressing smoothly as well and I plan to have it done by this time next month.
I’ve also ordered a siege workshop to get built so I can finally start making siege engines. Nothing calms the nerves like a nice death machine. Once I make some catapults, some peasants will start training with them to become the best siege operators an untrained and unpaid dwarf can be.

While wondering outside today, a dwarf was interrupted by a fox. crying like a baby, the dwarf ran uphill, away from the entrance to where the above ground reservoir was. This wouldn’t be so bad if…

That’s right. One of the military ran from a fox. I’ve been too lax with training lately, this guy just earned his entire squad an extra hour of drills.
I forgot to activate his squad so they’d start training. My bad.

That guy finally began working on his construction today. It had better be something good, because if it was a waste of time, he’s doing push-ups until he passes out, and when he wakes up he’s doing it until his arms fall off.

Some new migrants arrived today seeking a new life and opportunity in a new world. what these 21 dwarves found was a confusing disgrace of a fortress that now has a population of 75.
Among them were some useful dwarves. Imagine my delight when I heard that for once, a dwarf who excelled in the military turned out to be a potash maker.
Just as the migrants were arriving at our door however, that dwarf finally finished his artifact, held it up high above his head and ran around the fortress saying it was finished, making everyone cheer, even me. at least the migrants will have a good impression.

With the growth of our population and our military, I’ve decided to enlarge the barracks.

In other news, I am completely clueless as to what the levers do in the room near the dining room. I tried asking Aramco, but he just told me to pull and find out.

I’m not entirely confidant with the number of bedrooms we have right now, but I can’t be bothered to make more with the construction of the workshop space going on. I’ve decided to build a place for them to stay temporarily.
Here will do.

While they’re doing that, I think I’ll go make some catapult parts in the recently created siege workshop.

Of course, we don’t have a wood stockpile yet (actually we never did) so on my way outside to get some wood, I see that we still have hundreds of animals that we aren’t able to tame stuck in cages in our stocks. I didn’t look at them for very long because a mountain gnome started yelling that he was going to cut my beard off.
He’s just jealous.
I’ll have to make an arena as well to “deal” with this problem.

Well I’ve finally decided to reconnect the depot to our fortress so we don’t have to go outside to get to it. I’ve also made plans for installing doors. After construction is finished with the workshops, a moat will be built hopefully to be filled with the blood of the mountain someday.
I’ve also changed where the temporary rooms will be.

While I’ve made leaps and bounds with the food problem, we’re starting to face a serious drought now.

A lack of barrels and wood that is too far away is to blame.

Everyday I go to the mechanic and tell him to hook the lever up to the floodgate so we can finish the farm and he always says that he’s “Almost done” with his current project. I let him be as I respect one’s duty to his job, but he’s been “Almost done” for two months! We need the farm now!
I go to him and discover that the previous ruler has installed cage traps all over the country side. These traps get triggered often and it’s his job to take care of reloading it. That’s why he’s never working on the farm!
Either that or he’s always on break. I think that this is the more likely.
I would never scatter traps like that haphazardly, but since they’re already there, they might as well stay.

Today Conan II came into the dining room with his shield. not once did he let it go. Thinking this odd, several of the others and I tried to separate him from his shield. several noses were broken, and I received a black eye. Oh well, he’s not hurting anyone by keeping his shield, though it is getting annoying eating next to him while he stroke his shield saying “My precious…”

Oh yeah, and catten onaligam, trainer, has apparently canceled storing an item in a barrel.
Later…
An Elven caravan has been spotted on the outskirts of our cage trap circle. I guess I now have a play thing for the new military.
22nd of Felsite
Today, the miners found a cavern deep underground. I’ve heard of these caverns before. Legend says there are three caverns all together. The first cavern actually pierces the surface layer at places, but the 2nd and 3rd levels usually are only uncovered by the hands of dwarf. I believe that the cavern we found is the 2nd layer because it’s way too deep to be the first.
Under the third layer is the magma sea. I’ve heard of dwarves tapping this earth blood and using it for amazing things, but I wonder what’s beyond the magma sea. The core of the planet? The realm of Orshar, god of darkness, and his wife Bisol, god of healing? Or perhaps something else entirely. Maybe we shall one day find out.

Thief!
![](http://img.ie/8c245.png)
That Kobold right there thinks that he can steal from us! Ha! We have a state of the art military that will rip you to…
![](http://img.ie/51575.png)
It’s running away?
…
I hope you step on a cage trap on your way out, bastard.
Oh well. There is some good news, the first catapult is built and I’ve ordered a peasant into the siege engineer life.
I can imagine this place as a sparkling fortress filled with ballistas and catapults covering every possible angle, whose citizens all are legendary in either operating or engineering. It’s the dwarven dream!!! Or its mine at least.

When the elves arrived and all the pandemonium was over from the thief incident, I decided that blood would be shed, Elven blood.
Then this guy shows up:
![](http://img.ie/b4c4c.png)
The soldiers chase him out the door and across the land, but the kobold is quick compared to its armored chasers. I order them to abandon the chase and head to the elves. That’s the second one to get away. I won’t let a third escape.
But first the elves have some fun to experience.
