Declaring peace/ending wars
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:33:07 am »

I was thinking that why couldn't you end wars?
My suggestion is that you offer huge amount of goods (like 100k db) for the opponent as reparations. If they accept it, they will be neutral again.

You could have a special noble who is a messenger. you'd have to send messenger to the enemy capitol to discuss about peace ( he will take your bribe offer to the enemy). If they disagree they kill your messenger guy and you must send another one with bigger bribe offer.

then enemy would send a special caravans to take their goods away

As long as they send the dead messenger's head back in a pig tail fiber bag, I agree with this suggestion.

I think you can?  I haven't personally seen it, but I'm told that the elves will send a liaison to end their war with you after you kick their asses for long enough.

Then you have to make a decision:  do you want hippies bringing you 10 tons of cloth every spring, or valuable unicorn bones?

The point is not that war was more productive then peace, but rather we should have the choice. If I recall, the elves will not end war with you currently because they lack of nobles position to do diplomacy, but you can mod one in.

Also, ZioAnthros, is the font realy needed? Not that I can enforce you to not use it, but something about it is annoying.

Does that actually work though? I thought modded nobles would appear but not actually do anything.

It's not the font that's annoying me so much as the centering.

They do stuff, if you mod them right. All nobles are alreay in the raws, so you can add or remove them at will.

I like this idea. I also think that you should be able to surrender. Elves would likely demand stone and metal and that you not cut down trees. Humans would demand whatever you have that is very valuable. Goblins would demand anything they can carry away, and then some. Kobolds would take shiny stuff (actually, there should be some way to mod how shiny something is, and therefore increase the odds of kobolds snatching it). HFS would cause your fort to...not anything good, but it would make a great adventuring loacle!

We already have a sort of way to get peace - goblins just give up after you murder their entire siege force 5 years in a row.  It's just that they're hard-coded to always fight you, so they have to come back three years down the road after they've managed to find enough people who aren't deathly afraid of you yet.

In the upcoming Army Arc, we'll have a means of achieving "lasting peace".

By this, I of course mean genocide.  Sieges will end when you have come up with a "Final Solution to the Goblin Siege Problem".

Any other form of diplomacy is kind of pointless as long as they are hardcoded to always attack you.  They just keep coming until you kill them all, and they do it because the game gets boring to most players without some sort of military threat to test your brand new magma cannons on.

Clearly, we will need a way to breed our own goblins so that we have something to test our horrific death traps on after we've destroyed all of their civilizations.

Why?  That's what our euginics program is for - both creating a race of uberdwarves with hand-picked genetics, and also giving you some "undesirables" to test out your demented death traps upon.

The great thing about evil is that the negative side-effects of evil can be circumvented with enough evil in another area.

Well after army arc, we wont need to force an entity to attacks us for military entertainment, we could launch attacks to provoke other entities to come try to lay waste to the fortress. I doubt goblin will ever be fully peaceful though, since a lot of fantasy stories have a raider force.

I really can't wait until we can make lasting peace with elfs, humans and goblins.

...what? Don't look at me like that! While the sturdy dwarfs can stand strong on their own, any smith worth his salt will tell you that alloys are stronger.

The elves already bring useful stuff to trade, as do the humans. Mostly exotic animals. Can you imagine the sort of things the goblins will bring?

Trolls. We can have our own trolls. I bet my beard.

Hopefully this ends up in the army arc somewhere.
