I don't know what game you're playing, but iron is all there is on this shard.

Apparently my char was bugged or something. After using probably well over 2k ingots and not gaining a single point I petitioned a GM, and they said they reset some things and to try again. I go and burn 100 ingots and go from 50.0 to 50.4 in a few seconds.
Well, maybe my char is bugged too then. I thought there are better ores in other caves, because I couldn't raise my mining or bs at all no matter how I tried :).

Looks like there is a minimum Mining skill required to actually smelt ore, since I paid to train it and got it above 30, and now I'm actually getting ingots.

Blacksmithy isn't going up, but that may be because I'm just churning out shields for cash(which have very high success rates at my level). Tear Kite shields seem to be one of the better choices for shield money, since they're cheap to make(8 ingots, very low skill requirement), and I sold an exceptional one for 17gp.

Not playing, but i saw them mentioning that you gain craft skills faster in town square or something like that, look in their forums.

No, specific towns have different bonuses, some of them to crafting skills. It all depends on your citizenship.

"Az just told me the crafting area in Minoc is at The Forgery, which is west of the bank!"
Az: "You'll notice a sign in crafter-type areas. Usually one in each town. Most, or all, crafting skills, depending on the town, will receive a bonus in this area."
Perhaps that is what you mean, perhaps not. As i said. i don't play =P

I am not sure if those areas work for non-citizens though.

I'm looking into possibly joining in on this. Been a while since I've played UO, but I remember a shard from a year or two back really pulling me in. I'm mostly concerned this will be one of those awesome shards I join up and play on for a month and then all of a sudden it decides to shut down for some reason, I've had a few of those before.

Just curious but what kind of organization do we have going on so far? I don't think I've read a guild has formed, but how many are playing the game and what sort of professions are we looking at? I'm fancying making a sort of treasure hunter/detective, though I really would have the most fun if I picked skills that meshed with everyone else's skills.

I'm trying to build a fighting char, but I seem incapable of increasing his dex. I started with 50 str 20 dex 10 int. I'm now 57 20 10. I got the 7 str from getting macing to 40 from 30, which was great - but I got music up to 40 and hiding up to 40 and fencing up to 30  (all from 0) and I'm still at 20 dex. It just won't budge.

The worst part is now I keep getting stupid music and hide scrolls when killing stuff instead of the skills I actually want, so all I've done was screw myself over in trying to raise my dex  :o

Dex comes from crafting, I think. I know I got a dex increase from tailoring.

And nobody answered me before, where is the Britain Moongate?

I don't know the Ultima world nearly as well as I should (let alone know the games as well as I should) but does this help Akura? I think I read somewhere that they use the same base map as regular Ultima, so I figure it'd be viable...

Edit: Is anyone thinking about taking up Inscription? I might be tempted to do that after reading about these 'master scrolls'. Would make the profession much more interesting, I imagine.

Tinkering, fletching, tailoring. The rest is Str based if I recall correctly.
Fencing, pickpocketing, music, archery, begging etc.

Stats are really slow too, they have them on some insane timer so you'll only gain 1 or 2 stat points per hour.
