Yep, the game was just launched 24 hours ago, it's brand new.

what? A newly started server that has 800+ players?

It has 800+ online, yet I don't see house on house. The countryside is wild, the cities are tame
Here I leveled from 0 to 45 in a few hours, then it's noticeable slower. I think it takes around month or two to level your class you want to a master/gm level, and I am perfectly glad it's like it.
Like (old)retail UO? If you gain through normal use its something like that. But if you grind you can fix most skills quite fast, especially if they allow macroing.
What version is it? Do they use the AR values or the %resists?
I disliked that major change to the resist system.

Macroing is allowed as long as you are not gathering resources (wood, ore, fish etc)

Basically, Don't macro anything that gains you money.

I macroed simple skills like hiding and arms lore to 40-45, other stuff requires scripts and I am lazy to dig it up.

Wow, I didn't realize it started 24 hours ago... So many f*ng people!

They use physical/fire/cold/poison/energy resistance.

Also it has that advanced interface where you can click vendors, and advanced crafting windows.

Well it had some betas and all that, the forums clearly state it's official launch was 7pm gmt, feb 11, 2011. I guess they had a good number of followers by then.

Question: Do I need to create an account with EA to play this?

Nope, when you launch the game it will ask for your username and password, if the username is available it will create an account with the info you provided, assuming it's like all the other UO shards I've tried.

You can create 3 accounts per IP, no e-mail address or website registration required.
I might create a tutorial video to help get people set up if it's needed.

Yeah, I don't remember seeing any working "anti-pk" system on any of the servers I played on :).

That's because they don't work. Weeelll...

One shard I was staff on many years ago had guards in the newbie city (and only the newbie city, where newbies started) which, if you committed a crime or murder or entered as a criminal or murderer, they would attempt to knock you out and if they succeeded (and they were quite strong), would teleport you into a dungeon jail where you had to use a pickaxe to mine a certain amount of stuff (which you fed to a ball & chain attached to you), before you would be teleported back to the surface world. (The penalty increased the more times you got caught, as well)

You could also be broken out of jail by players on the outside, going through the caverns leading to the jail, but there were some pretty tough monsters in the way (and this wouldn't get rid of the ball & chain, which prevented teleport spells from functioning).

For the rest of the world, anyone who was a murderer, well, it was a roleplaying shard and I don't think any crazy axe murderers ever made it through the applications process. If they did, they got banned. There were wars between different player-run empires, however, which were able to take and hold the various towns and cities, and that was fully supported.

(It also had an entirely new map. I'm a bit disappointed the shard you're all talking about doesn't. Most good shards did. It doesn't actually sound that good to me.)

I personally love the Britannia map. Mainly because I played Ultimas from I to VII, so it's very native to me :).

Also a "new" world is not always good. I've played on a "Forest World" shard, and it had a pretty ugly map. Mapmaking takes a lot of time which could be spent on coding or something else, which all costs money, so yeah. I am perfectly okay with the old map (although I don't mind a good-quality new map :)).

Well, right now I mine in Minoc to get some ore to trade/forge stuff for my first character. I will explore for a bit and then try to infiltrate some guild ;).

I installed the classic UO client, then I installed the patch in the same folder, but it looks like when I run UO it's still using the EA autopatcher. Wat do?

Go into the UO folder and try to run the game from client.exe that should bypass the autopatcher.

There is also a utility called Razor that is linked on the IPY wiki which you can use to connect as well (among other amazing features it has).

Razor - http://www.runuo.com/razor/Razor_Latest.exe

How do I make money? Nobody will buy stuff I have, and it keeps calling me a criminal whenever I skin a giant rat nobody else thought to. Killing them myself is tough, since they keep ganging up on me, and for some reason it's rubberbanding me on the spot sometimes(bad when trying to run away).
