I'll be playing on it once I get my UO client patched up.
Some differences:
A) There is a Paladin system in place that will let you become a justice dealer and hunt down PKs, they will become the ones who are hunted. http://azaroth.org/2010/10/17/10-in-10-paladins/
B) The server is backed by a staff that has a long history with UO.
C) Two hours of quicker skill gain per day, after two hours it slows down. It will take time / effort / fun to reach grandmaster.
D) City system with citizenship and the ability to siege other towns / steal their gold / elect a king for each city.

From reading through the forums / faqs / wiki it appears they've taken the route UO should have followed and kept the intense hunter vs hunted feeling that the world and combat delivered. You can be PK'd out in the wilderness, you can be scammed, it's not about collecting rare loot all day long and camping boss mobs (though there are champion mobs / camps).
Once I've played for a while and if it isn't a complete toss (highly depends on the community) I might look into setting up an Urist guild near Minoc or something.
I'll know more though when this 5hour patch process finishes, come on already...
Really? You will play it? Man! I may join too
. I just tried to get in UO again, but the server I played on has too many high-level powergamers and "pvp tools" (when the loot has some ultimate weapons/armor, everyone becomes a walking death machine no matter how rare is it; I prefer servers with mediocre materials and requirement to play in groups to defeat tough monsters/capture bases rather than with an emphasis on a single player ownage), so it was not enjoyable.
I may join too!
P.S. The thread title made my heart to stop for a second when I saw it, and I already knew what is it about. Does it mean that I've played UO too much?
Don't advertise private servers here, man. Unless it's legal, which it might be, because IIRC a WoW private server won a lawsuit from Blizzard.
Don't be an ass. I mean seriously, try to google around before posting something like this. The main point in UO is shards, and they exist for a dozen of years already.

Yeah, I disliked those servers which made a focus on ultimate gear where people were farming for it for months (as I wrote above, to be "like others"), nor I liked "teddybear" servers with guard zones sprawling across the world and houses on top of each other.
I prefer it old way: where a bunch of scrolls and mediocre crafted gear were enough to loot and plunder, so the skills played the major role.
