7500☼ of roads??

Right now my goal is just to become the capital of my civilization. Not much of a goal really. But to become the capital seems to require 7500* worth of roads. After connecting 3 of the 4 sides of the map with three tile wide roads made of normal non-economic rock, I'll probably end up with less than 2000*.

What am I supposed to do here? Pave the roads with gold blocks or just pave every unpaved tile on the surface of the map?

Do roads even do anything other than look pretty?

Try paving it with something valuable, like... Well, gold.

Roads stop plants and trees from growing there, which, if wagons were ever in the newest version, could block the path to your depot.

I solved that problem a while ago by paving a large square area with gold, and placing gold statues all around it and on some holes in it like some sort of monument. Too bad some of the statues were of donkey (not gonna use the actual word it used, but donkey means the same thing) fiends.

On a normal sized embark, I made a 5x5 grid of 3-tile wide roads across the whole embark area, and that took me to about 10 000.

Also if you press n -> c, you can see the requirements for becoming the capital, including the value of constructed roads. AFAIK the offerings only increase when the caravan has actually left the map.

Keep in mind that a road made out of blocks is almost certainly much more valuable than a road made out of bars or loose stone.

5,000☼ in offerings to Dwarven caravan
140 population

Seriously, just train up an architect and make a huge golden road.

Yeah, in my cavern Fun, I'm digging out a whole Z level.  That's turning up a lot of gold, as well as cassiterite, silver, and platinum.  If you want to train an architect fast, you may want to make a two macros, one to make a row of 1x1 roads that much each individually be built, training up architecture as fast as your dwarf can work, and another macro to remove them all so you can re-build them again.  Deconstructing a masterwork structure doesn't cause a bad mood, but they do if a building destroyer, cave-in, or fire destroys the building.  When satisfied, pave your area with gold road!

The wiki is wrong; it's 7 500 not 5 000 in roads. (v31.18)
It's not "outdated" because at the top of the screen it clearly says current version, so it must be for the current version, right? What a stupid fu**ing idea that was, huh? Anyway, the wiki is wrong.

I'm getting a requirement of 5000* of roads...

Anyway, it's just floor tiles in the shape of a road, or is there a more arcane and non-intuitive method?
