I think you can put XP on a memory stick. Also, grammar and punctuation are good. My head hurts. (Mostly because I'm sick, but...)

You can install xp from a usb memory or you can run it from usb. You would just need a .iso file of the xp cd and a program to build it on a usb memory. I could look it up if you need help with it.

I recall reading that windows xp was troublesome to run from an usb (I looked into this a while ago, too), but am not sure as to the details, as I lost interest in the matter and did not keep any links..

Anyway, I dont think you'll get better performance out of Xp than of 7 starter. XP is... very outdated.

You might as well just up to 7 pro. It is a very solid OS.

Haven't had any problems with xp on usb but maybe it depends on the version? Xp is starting to age but the only problem is that it's getting harder and harder to find drivers on the net. I have tried Vista and Seven but they changed most of the control panel so it's a pain to manage and too much eye candy.

XP or go with a linux flavour.  Should be able to install it onto a USB stick without a problem, lord knows people have done it accidentally many a time.  Though really, why even keep windows 7 starter around?

gives you a reason to upgrade to home premium on a system with not enough thunder under the hood so you curse at it.

I'm keeping it around to run games. For internet and work, I keep ubuntu. Hadn't read about starter's particular limitations until now. Even so, I intend to keep it (unless I become fed up with it) simply because I can't be arsed to dig out a copy of XP (which I was already unhappy to begin with) when I am using windows only for pointless gaming stuff to begin with.

I'm not really sure anymore. As I read more about starter and I like it less and less. 1GB ram limit? can't change the desktop's background?

Maybe it's better to have a full featured XP, despite it being old and performing badly, than having a castrated windows 7.

I personally wont touch it unless I meet one of those limits in my computer (say, during a ram upgrade attempt), but then again, I am not using windows as my main OS. If I was, I might think differently

Starter is essentially useless, it's a flavour designed for the netbook fad and for "developing nations" (ie. China and most of Africa).  A fair portion of China and a fair portion of Africa are using pirated XP though...

Her, no... just go for ubuntu netbook edition. Really.
In this case there is no competition, and you can easily install it from about anything.
