In the dead of winter, a mountain of ice appears on the northern horizon. Some brave fishermen examine it more closely, and discover strange gems hidden in the ice. They are hard, clear, and perpetually cold, with faint blue veins running along the surface. A fair number are brought back to town before the mountain floats into a storm and vanishes.
Vlorinth's arm encounters another kraken while exploring west, but a few well-placed ballista bolts send the thing back into the depths. Then it discovers an atoll, and gets caught in a nasty storm. When the ship runs into another colony of sea serpents, already seriously damaged, the captain excercises the better part of valor and heads home.
