(I kind of hate to start someone I'm sure will be one of my best players off on a bad foot, but, well, that's the way the dice landed.)
Calamity strikes Xeniice late one fall, when heavy flooding washes away some of the farms surrounding the city. The city itself, fortunately, was on higher ground and is undamaged, and the harvest was already in, but productivity will suffer until the farms are rebuilt.
Things go well, otherwise. Everyone eats well despite the lost farm, and the flood becomes another cautionary tale added to the city's slowly-growing body of myth, history, and gossip.

Clearing in the middle of Xeniice: Council Meeting Ground.
Shortly before dusk.

Little has changed. A few family heads have died, to be replaced with their successors. The memory "games" played by spectators have gotten more elaborate, and now contain ever-more-exciting versions of recent events, but they are fundamentally the same. The farmland that has been rendered unusable mostly affected the Lozanth family and those allied to her, greatly weakening their power.

Galthor has just finished a compelling speech, encouraging all families to help reclaim the destroyed farmland.

Ilasi: "You waste your breath, old one. Kalron sees no reason to expend such effort on them, when they'll just throw that away. Even now, he continues with his fool's endeavor, teaching several of Lozanth young to do nothing. They'll suffer for it, and they should suffer alone."

Mjolar: "As I've told you, it's not a waste. These young men will be able to protect us from--"

Raalth: "The Azuri will help, on one condition: The farms must be further up the river. The spirits have claimed the old land."

Ilasi: "Hrmph. Kalron will grow mighty as you squander yourselves thus."

Galthor: "Ilasi, please. If we work together on this--"

Ilasi: "Spare me. I've heard it enough times."

Mjolar: "But even you must admit that the stories the still nomadic tribes have brought from afar are disturbing."

Ilasi: "Mere children's tales. I said worse to my own children. There is nothing more to say on the matter."

Ilasi departs, and the remaining elders discuss their plans in more detail.

This is mostly as notes to myself, so I don't have to keep looking back at my fluff from previous turns.

Governor Galthor - Patriarch of the Arlenth family. He has earned the respect of many other family heads, and acts as a sort of spokesman for the council, (usually) keeping the family heads from conflicting such that one family or the other leaves Xeniice. Some complain about his apparently greater power, but most agree that his compromises are mutually beneficial. He believes that greater benefit will come to families that work together then will come to families who insist on behaving greedily.

Mjolar - Patriarch of the Lozanth family. Despite his relative old age, he is a new patriarch. His third uncle, the old patriarch of Lozanth, lived to a surprisingly old age. He is dedicated to improving his family's position. He considers his likely successor to be weak and incompetent, and lives with the fear that the Lozanth will be forgotten entirely if he fails to lead it to an impressive accomplishment.

Ilasi - Matriarch of the Kalron family. She is quite arrogant, and encourages her family towards wasteful decadence.

Raalth - Matriarch of the Azuri family. She is kind, and highly spiritual.

Once again, Feta showed his worth. With just a glance and a few tastes, his expert eye was able to detect that a "weed" growing in the forest was a rare spice. It tasted terrible, but apparently it was good for you, and once he said it was, all the elders clamored on board, saying that they knew it was good all along. Promising that they would be back safe and sound, Feta took the young men under his wing, and they marched west along the plains into the wider world.

The first outing with the younglings had exceeded expectations, when they returned they told of the things they had seen, the new landscapes. Depite them not seing anything truly amazing or interesting, it still raised enough interest, that they would go out exploring again. They would split into two groups, and augment their numbers with new recruits, deciding to explore to the east this time instead of the west. The village elders had decided that Feta's services would be better spend helping explore the area around the city for new resources.

Chief Naith gets antsy as the days go by, and his dreams are haunted with fire and ash. Upon consultaion with the shamans, he orders the tribe to attempt to figure out how to make long stone barriers. Meanwhile, some of the youth are working together to drive game into traps, with long poles of sharpened wood. The Shamans have also started a new tradition, and historian Kulth is welcomed to the village council

Chief Nath : Still young and unexperenced, he is said to be favored by the spirits. However, his dreams are haunted with disaster.
Kulth : The tribal historian, who knows the lore of times past. Old an wizened, he wishes all these younguns would stop bothering him so much.
Tiorv : The Chief of all Shamans, what she doesn't know about the tribesfolk could barely fill a drop of rain. Rumors that she uses this to blackmail people are completely false. Really.

A clearing surrounded by Lozanth tents.

Mjolar is speaking to his squad of warriors. They stand in no particular formation and show a definite lack of discipline; a more advanced viewer would only be able to call them "disorganized rabble." Still, some stand proudly, while others glance around nervously. Very few look confident. Several of the so-called "bards" watch, eager to see how Mjolar's plan works out.

Mjolar: "I'm displeased with your progress. After all these moons, we have very little to show the rest of Xeniice. You can barely coordinate well enough to hunt, and keep hurting each other while sparring--"

Soldier: <snickering> "I thought that the point."

Mjolar: "What? .. No! You will continue sparring daily, until you can do so without risking hurting each other. Galthor is unable to rally the support to continue helping Lozanth. Remember, if you fail here, you fail us all ... You two, start sparring."

Elsewhere, a newly arrived tribe is eating a meal of some of the excess grains given freely to them by Kalron.Some of their hunters are describing the thrills of the hunt, the chase, and the kill to a cluster of bards, who listen with rapt attention. There is a small discussion amongst their elders.

Arli: "I see a future for us here. The game get scarcer every year, and more of us go hungry. Here, there is much food. Here, they are generous."

Elder 2: "You propose we stay, then."

Arli: "I do. Ilasi would be happy to give us land."

Elder 3: "To betray our traditions .... Yet perhaps you are right. It may be for the best."

Arli: "Are there any objections? ..... Then we stay, at least for now."
