Microcline
« on: February 11, 2011, 10:35:18 am »

What's up with the microcline hate? I personally love the look of microcline and don't get what people hate about it. I make all my workshops out of it.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I think it's a hold over from when striking microcline and other cluster stone would pause and zoom to the dwarf who'd struck it by default.  It was unspeakably obnoxious when you were digging a downward shaft and got interrupted ever few floors, or when your mega-housing project got interrupted every so often by the same.  Microcline just stood out from other rocks that caused the same problem (orthoclase, mica, et cetera) due to its rather distinctive color.

Most people don't like the color.

I like Orthoclase though, and apparently quite a few people dislike that color for some reason (not as many as with Microcline, though).

The color. It is horrid. I dont generally like bright colors, but that nasty bright cyan color realy takes the top.

Added to that is the fact that along with orthoclase it shows up far more than the other big glob shaped rocks formations.

I generally set the rocks to remove themselves with a realy high colddam value, and replace the walls and floors with constructions.

Yeah, the default colour is "eye-blasting blue" which most people don't like.  Microline is the reason I always play with modded colours.

Microcline is in intrusive, extrusive, and metamorphic layers. Of course people hate it, it's everywhere and bright cyan.

You know those stories of Spaniards who brought back galleons full of gold from the New World, only to find it was worthless Pyrite?

Yeah, it's like that.

I don't know about you guys, but I always start a fort with one gem-item creator. Not only can I make microcline go away, but it's much more useful/desirable in jewelry form! (Well, not really USEFUL, but you know)

Microcline? Gem?
What on earth are you talking about?

Also, I kind of like Microcline's color. I definitely prefer it over the three thousand shades of grey. But the fact that it's so freaking common is kind of annoying.

...huh you're right. I just checked the wiki and it can't be used as a gem.
This is probably due to a small amount of deliberate raw-duplication.

Even though people really like to hate microcline, I really like the amazonite, plus I think the just plain feldspar microcline that's kind of a bluish gray is pretty cool looking, as well.

I don't see why people complain about the color, though, you have to change the colors off of the default even to see regular blue, IMHO, so you might as well change cyan's saturation while you're at it.
