Playing screen size
« on: February 11, 2011, 05:03:31 am »

Hello,

Could somebody please tell me how to fill the black part of the screen with, uh, useful information? :) No matter what I do with init.txt, I still get this:

I think it is reasonable to have the black part filled with "more" map and/or text. By "more" I mean a higher number of characters inside the DF window, not bigger characters (I can make them slightly bigger using the mouse wheel).

People suggest playing with init.txt. Well, I cannot make it work :( A part of a tweaked init.txt follows:

[WINDOWED:YES]
[WINDOWEDX:140]
[WINDOWEDY:80]
[FONT:curses_800x600.png]
[RESIZABLE:YES]
[BLACK_SPACE:YES]
[GRAPHICS:NO]

Being new to DF, I don't know if the following make any difference: The screenshot is in fortress mode, but I'm interested more in adventure mode. I have tried with 3 different machines (1 windows & 2 linux), 3 different video cards and 3 different monitors. According to the release notes file, my DF is 0.31.18 (November 16, 2010).

Thanks!

Hold down the ctrl key, and move your mouse's scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

That's the embark screen and it won't get any bigger. That's all the information you'll ever get on it. Just go on with your game and when you embark you will see you have a lovely big screenful of your local map.
