Mud vs. Z-1 Soil
« on: February 10, 2011, 10:13:07 pm »

Have a bunch of good soil layers in my current embark and had laid out a tree farm - but fouled up and forgot to skip a layer. Got one crop (while in the process of digging out the layer below) but of course no new trees are popping now.

If you irrigate a layer will trees grow there even if the layer below is mined out?

Muddied ROCK cavern floors can spawn trees as well as muddied soil, so yes, irrigating will solve your issue if you create mud everywhere.

Can muddied above-ground rock support trees?

Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

Muddied above ground rock can only support trees if they have an undug square beneath them within a 2 tile radius according to the wiki.
