Following months of maneuvering the many armies in Macedonia all assembled in or around Thessalonica. The Timurids had a large army garrisoning the city, and the Ventians had two different armies sitting in siege around it, while another Timurid force sat outside it, waiting for the attack so they could reinforce it.
The smaller Venetian force sat on a small strip of land where they could not link up with the larger force, yet they had all the artillery. Eventually it was decided that they would attack and the Doge would assist as he was able.
The culverins opened on the walls, blowing them open, and in went the Venetian Heavy Infantry. Into the meat grinder. over 10 units of assorted Timurids sat in opposition. Meanwhile the Doge lead some musketeers through a hole in the walls from when the Timurids had claimed the city, marching into the main square, where they met their first line of resistance.

The VHE still marched up the streets, inch by blood soaked inch, until they too reached the square. Bu this point more troops from the Doge's army had arrived to hold the square, so they went back into the streets to hold them should the second Timurid army attack.

Instead of retaking the city that army began to attack the archers of Venice that were still outside the wall.

In the end the battle was won, but at what cost? Most of the original attacking army was destroyed,

and the Timurid army still sat outside the walls.
To avenge the fallen the inhabitants were put to the sword, as was standard Venetian practice.
However, any offensive would require additional troops be moved in from Sofa or Durazzo and Ragusa, and that would take for too much time.
