I like the way you think. But I make no guarantees, as this is my first game. Just be happy if you don't die horribly in your first battle.

I also like the idea of hitting both, and Jerusalem. As Venice you don't have alot of Rebel held land near you like most people, so the best thing to do is pick 1 enemey and hammer them to death as fast as possible. If you're worried about other catholics in the begining I suggest the Byzantine Empire or the Turks or the Egyptions.

So my plan so far is this: Pick a random Italian state, then beat them into the ground. Then another. Then another. Consolidate Italy and beat the Pope into submission. (I'm not big on things like finesse, and tactics.)

Sound good?

Err, I would attack a few other countries first. The Papal states can never die out. Plus, excommunication is highly annoying.

Milan is a good choice then, close and small, and later on the get killer crossbows so it's best to take them out fast. HRE starts with italian land but they can wait a bit while you brutally murder Sicily. Thats it for itallian states.

So Milan, then Sicily, then make the Papal States my bitch? Then I can worry about the rest of Europe? Works for me. And I should aim for crossbows and heavy infantry as my main armies? That's what it sounds like.

Milan has the deadly crossbows, you do not. But it depends on weither you want Rof or armor piercing on weither you should use bows or crossbows, early game armor isn't a big deal so bows would be better early on.

Cool, or I could just screw around and build whatever sounds good. I'll try to follow the advice, but that's my plan.
