My first bit of nightmare fuel...
« on: February 10, 2011, 05:34:10 pm »

One of my craftsdwarves (who carried a baby) got possesed and rushed to the clothier's shop. After taking a bit of cloth... she stopped. I decided to check what does she want... wood bone uncut gems... i had everything but i guess she wanted something more specific so...
I walled her off with the kid.
While my masons built the wall she gave birth to another toddler... lucky guy got away but the one already in her arms had less luck.

Great, isn't it?  DF gets -really- gritty once you've played it for any length of time.  My favorite is during one fort, I was under rough ambushes, and had 10 military on gate duty at all times.  After searching their moods and stuff, I found them covered in the blood of goblins, humans, their own, and their comrades, fighting in the rain and snow, and resorting to eating vomit that an injured goblin had provided.  Those were some hard-ass dwarves.

Wait, the baby was strong enough to bruise her lung?  Damn, dwarves are born with the strength of many men.

You got it lucky. Same thing happened to me with a Jeweller and some silk she wanted. I thought I could just wall her off, but when blood started flying after four to five months of her isolation I realised she was carrying a baby.

Immediately the troops were ordered to move in. They were too late to save the infant, and the mother had to be put down as well. One of the soldiers immediately became depressed after. Why? He was the last in the group, was lagging at least five squares behind everyone else, and didn't even get to lay a single hit on the insane parent, or in fact see her or the baby while they were still alive. I checked his bio.

Well yeah... one baby was lucky and the other got splattered.

But i want my workshop back.
My current military consists purely of epic fail guys and i dont want the rabid mother kill them off.
Will she come back to her senses or do i have to wait for her to die out of dealkoholization?

And here I was hoping worried that the dwarf had gone into a fell mood and used the baby to construct an artifact.  Better luck next time?

When I first started reading, that's what I thought.  "Need, bones...  Hmm..."

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

If you had necromancy powers, this would be a pretty solid way to prank people.
A creepy old man runs up to you and suddenly the skin in your backpack tries to kill you? High Octane Nightmare Fuel much.

Yeah, fell moods are guaranteed Nightmare Fuel/Hilarity depending on how seriously you take the game. I still remember my first one - my bone carver didn't kill a baby, but he did get the Militia Commander's wife, and made an artifact dwarf bone gauntlet out of her (just one gauntlet, of course. Such a waste; you'd think he could at least make a pair of them out of that much material). The Commander himself wound up wearing it.. I'd like to think that he doesn't know where it came from. I hope he doesn't know where it came from.

Update. The baby remains just started producing miasma that fills the walled off area.

Oh and there's that lucky kid who managed to get away.

Watch the kid now go and toss itself into your well because it's depressed over the death of it's sibling and mother.

I've noticed that my dwarven babies are always content, with exactly 100 points of happiness at all times.
