Atonement RPI is a roleplay intensive MUD which takes place in the deep future, after Earth has been royally screwed by super volcanoes and other such disasters and the final remnants of mankind have been forced to relocate to the terraformed craters of the moon to escape complete annihilation.

The actual play area is set in a run down backwater dystopia known as Grungetown. Resources are extremely scarce, as is a lot of technologies and commodities such as bullets and guns. People known as scavengers scour the more dangerous parts of the city and other parts of the moon in search of junk that can be recycled and turned into new usable materials in behemoth recyclers/auto lathes known as Firebreathers.

There are three families in the game, all of which players can belong to. They are essentially factions, each owing to a radically different ideology of how the planet should be governed. Players can create humans, cyborgs or mutants, and then play out their lives in this bleak future.

I believe I've played this before on the recommendation of a previous thread. I tried to get into the roleplay, but didn't quite succeed.

Well, I've died...

It was a pretty meh experience since there really was nothing I could do to avoid it short of not stepping out in the wilderness in the first place.

But nothing ever happens in the city so what else can one do. So I just feel... ... ...

Well some of the best advice I can give is to not just wander the streets alone or go out in the wilderness alone, you won't find many other players doing the first, and you'll die quickly to the second, and both will be boring. Get involved with other PC's, make some connections, and then things will be easier/more entertaining. That's how you'll get involved in the gangfights, the merchant dealings, the mystery-investigations and plots that make the Mud tick.

It's required as a small part of the alloy to make proper bullets, since lead might be more rare or nigh unfindable.

Also, it's not wasted as a bullet- since resources are scarce, the price of using the gold for a bullet is weighed against what that bullet could possibly gain you.

Great, now my brain is broken.

Edit: Just asking because to my knowledge, gold is not naturally occurring on the moon, in any quantities, at all. (Yes even less so than lead)

Which means it'd have to be imported from Earth's grav well.

At a hideously excorbiant expense.

Marble slab grave markers annoy me in a similar manner.

God dammit, I created my account on the sixth, and when I tried to log in it said my account didn't exist. On the 7th I filed a help ticket, there's still no update on it and I still can't log in. Even if I had spare time I wouldn't play.
