Wierd ground bug
« on: February 02, 2008, 05:24:00 am »

I started a new fort an embarked to a "desert" with siliceous ooze as the sand layer. once I arrived the area which is meant to be siliceous ooze was flashing randomly between everthing else.

Well, there's undoubtably some corruption involved since sillicous ooze is SUPPOSED to be found at the bottom of oceans.  However, that being said, I managed to find a location on the shore where I could build a fort that was close enough to deep water to reach the clay and ooze layers.  It also has the flashing thing going on, but only on the very lowest Z level (absolute altitude of 4 or so, so still above 0...)

lol, think I know why I had such a wierd desert, the flashing is a bug but the wierd position of the ooze may be because I flagged all soil layers as sand

I've seen the 'flashing terrain' bug reported before by multiple people who installed the 3d version of DF over the 2d one.  I have NO idea why that would do it, but I suspect it means that -some- forms of changes to the materials can do it, and your changes are probably the culprit.  Did you rebuild the world after making changes?
