« on: February 09, 2011, 08:30:24 am »

Current Status

IMPORTANT

The fort is still in it's setup phase. Projects cannot currently be worked on, and dwarves are in short supply. This doesn't stop you from planning ahead however.

Dwarves: 20
Players: 10

Guild Members

HEAL (Hospitals, Encouragement And Life)
Caevin, Chief Medical Dwarf (Caevin)

Stargazers (currently Mason's Guild for convenience)
Giovani, Mason (Javarock)

Historians
Askot, Chief Historian (Askot Bokbondeler)

Steel Workers
PanzerLord, Metallurgist (TALLPANZER)
Jacen, Steelsmith (JacenHanLovesLegos)

Booze Lords
Scrub, Brewer (RadPanda)
dwarfguy2, Brewer

Miner's Guild
Valrandir, Miner (Valrandir)

Outpost Defense
smeej, Commander
Zane, Archer

Projects

Project 1: Magmine
-Dig down to the magma.
-Relocate steel industry to the magma sea.
-ALTERNATIVELY: Build magma pump stack and bring the magma up!
-Design guild hall for steel workers.

Potential Guilds
Crafters ( Can be divided into separate industries, like stonecrafters, bonecrafters, leatherworkers, clothiers... they take care of exports, mostly )
Mechanics and Architects ( They go hand-in-hand! Bridges, pumps, power networks, traps, you name it! )
Haulers ( What? It's a legitimate profession! And somebody's gotta do it. Not sure about projects though... probably something with corridors and passageways. )
Fortress Guard ( Justice! You need jails and a small squad of decent soldiers to carry it out. )
And more...

Yeah, in the future you probably shouldn't strike the earth quite so hard

Noo, don't let it fade away! I shall participate!

I assume I am getting dwarved along with this, so my request is going to be:
Name: Caevin
Profession: Doctor (Chief Dwarf if you accept)
Guild: Why, the Hospital, Encouragement And Life (HEAL) Guild of course!

I wish you the best of luck dealing with us (I expect to be a nuisance) Mysterius

As well As I

Name: Giovani
Profession: Mechanic/Mason
Guild: Stargazers

His goal in his life is to build a tall tower that will touch the stars them selfs. Being a dwarven Astronomer his ideals goals, And evenquest in lfie is rediculed by the other dwarfs.. Thus he was expelled from the mason guild... And up to himself to build his own tower!

So in other words his goal in life is to make a mega-project tower...

Thought I'd tease you guys with some images. Javarock, I couldn't find a suitable dwarf for you just yet, but you'll be added as soon as I find one.

As for your guild, you'll have to still be part of the Mason's Guild for now... but once more resources are available we can see about making a skyscraper. I won't do regular updates until my fort is established enough that I can start building Guild halls. And yes, you can decide what your Guild hall will look like! Within certain guidelines, of course. :P

Name: PanzerLord
Profession: Furnace operator/Armorsmith
Guild: Steel workers

He wants to work with steel, and will make steel bars whenever possible. Smelting ore into bars is his second favorite thing to makeing steel armor. So magma works a top priority to the Steel workers guild.

I could help out with writing if you want, having a nice narrative would probably entice lots of people to join.

Updated the first post with some info. I'll keep it up to date as new members join and as projects are worked on/completed.

in as the chief historian, i shall be the record keeper and preside over the engravers guild. eventually i shall demand the construction of the "halls of memory", and forbid the export of buckets, or something...

One of the starting seven is an extremely creative Engraver/Stonecrafter who I dubbed the fort's Artist. He's all yours. :D

You're in luck.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We got limestone, limonite, lignite and magnetite all over the place.

This embark is pretty interesting. We're at the bottom of a small valley, with low hills to the south and high mountains to the north. I think actually learning to use pumps would be worthwhile here, since bringing magma all the way up to the ground level would save a LOT of time. That's a project for the mechanics though! :P

I could help out with writing if you want, having a nice narrative would probably entice lots of people to join.

I was going to establish a foothold first before bothering with narrative, since right now there isn't much to elaborate upon.

However, nothing is stopping you from writing about your dwarf, what he/she's like, motivations, goals... I can't promise that all of it will become relevant in gameplay, but well fleshed-out dwarves are interesting to write for.

Can't really do much this morning, but I owe you guys an update tonight.

Have a nice day!

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.

I can't really pick specific skills at this point, but I can definatly make you a miner. You won't be doing any engraving just yet though... The Historians got that covered for the time being.

I CALL AN MIGRANT!

I can definatly name a dwarf after you, but you won't really be doing much unless you join a guild.

I'll update the first post with some more info.

Is Defense a viable guild option? Having to convince the guilds to take times away from their businesses to dig trenches and produce weapons sounds interesting.

edit: NM missed that bit in the OP  8)

Smeej
Militia Commander?
Outpost Defense (I'll think of something better once I've got caffeine.)

Pretty much wants choice picks of migrants and cooperation from the steelworkers. Despises cowardly traps.
