Same thing, then I would an even more valid reason to respond how I'm responding right now.

I don't do all the lines for NPCs and they act pretty much as extensions of the players. It means something because there is some amount of assumed dialogue, detailed below.
Quote
This follows the law of assumed NPC-PC dialogue. If two PC's are performing an action that generates public details (Something I write) then the amount of assumed dialogue is nil, otherwise it robs the PC's of their RP opportunities. However, if an NPC and PC are together and the NPC performs on action with public details, then we have some assumed dialogue.
The problem is you didn't give me any reason to assume Taric told me anything. No "Taric relays his ideas to back to Tarran", just "Maybe the simple approach would be best here" as if it was self-pondering.

Allow to me to set you a scene. You and Taric down the bottom, it's dark as hell, but you can still see his face both by your own abilities and the reflected light of his rigged flashlight. You've asked him to investigate a door, and he has, up till now, replied with the same stuck up "brainier than thou" attitude he had always given you. But when he gets to the door, nothing happens, nothing at all. He just stands in front of the metal barrier, perhaps suddenly looking mildly confused by the problem or perhaps chagrined that he may have to admit that there is nothing he can do. Tarran is still standing beside him, and if he's like any normal human being then he's going to be watching something that he commanded be done- particularly when there's nothing else to do.

Unless Tarran has the social skills of cavern dweller, completely in contradiction with his character to date, he should be able to read more than a little just from Taric's expression and body language. That is assuming that you're deciding to ignore the rule of assumed dialogue.

This left me with two opposing choices: Assume Taric told me nothing and I should wait for him to speak to me, or assume Taric told me something and react however to that. The latter, to me, seemed more sensible, so I picked the latter.

No, you picked the former of the choices. You chose to wait for Taric to say something. If you had assumed that he said something then we would not be having this lovely conversation.

Hey, don't blame it all on me, you're the one who chooses to respond to dialog inside turns rather than outside. If you responded outside of turns, neither I nor you would have to wait several turns for a conversation to get done. In addition, it's your fault for making Taric respond mostly inappropriately to a simple question.

Yes, I choose to write a player's dialogue only when they have an action to back it up. However, if you choose to waive this rule for Taric then I would gladly waive it for you as well. It really would speed things along greatly if I wrote all the dialogue for my players, inside and outside the turns... I believe it was Serious who requested the brokeback mountain scene, wasn't it?
If that didn't put a slow feeling of dread in your stomach, then you really need to sit down and consider what you're saying. I don't write out of turn dialogue for players, period. Why? Because out of turn dialogue is the only real RP freedom you have, I don't know your character and I'm not psychic, thus I will inevitably write bad dialogue for your character.

Secondly, and the more darkly funny to me, you never asked a question. You made an action with no dialogue and then whinged when the retroactive turn change I made didn't completely satisfy your whims. In character, Taric has never been helpful or appropriate towards you, never. So, basically, you're blaming me for not giving you an answer that would violate a character's personality in reply to question that you never asked except in meta, and you the reason you're doing this is because you're such a hardcore RP separation of player and character kind of guy? If that is my fault, well, I think I can live it.

I am growing tired of humoring you. If other players felt the same way I would feel differently, but this is the third time, at least, that we have engaged in this kind of argument while those other than myself have attempted to reason with you on the side.

Tarran is still standing beside him, and if he's like any normal human being then he's going to be watching something that he commanded be done- particularly when there's nothing else to do.
Then this is another problem: You didn't manage to convey this scene to me as you didn't provide enough details, for me. As I saw it, my character continued searching for stuff while Taric was working on the door, meaning his head would be 180 or so degrees in the other direction in my idea of what happened.

But thank you for clarifying things.

No, you picked the former of the choices. You chose to wait for Taric to say something. If you had assumed that he said something then we would not be having this lovely conversation.
Yeah I made a mistake there.

Yes, I choose to write a player's dialogue only when they have an action to back it up. However, if you choose to waive this rule for Taric then I would gladly waive it for you as well. I... don't see how you're getting "Write dialogue for everyone" out of "Respond as soon as possible instead of waiting a turn".

Secondly, and the more darkly funny to me, you never asked a question.
Not at the start: That was before you clarified things. So it shouldn't be a surprise.

Quote
You made an action with no dialogue
Because at the time I assumed Taric said nothing, and my character didn't want to interrupt him.

Quote
and then whinged when the retroactive turn change I made didn't completely satisfy your whims
I'm not looking for complete satisfaction, I'm looking for something that gives my character information he wants. What he got was an option, but no information.

Regardless, the only reason I complained is because you complained about/insulted me on how I'm spending my turn. And even there it served mostly as a point rather than complaint. I did not complain about it at all elsewhere. And if it wasn't due to what seems like wroth from you, I wouldn't even have a problem with it at all as I know well that Taric is an ass.

Quote
In character, Taric has never been helpful or appropriate towards you, never.
You have a point there. But I'm not sure I ever really challenged it.

Quote
I am growing tired of humoring you. If other players felt the same way I would feel differently, but this is the third time, at least, that we have engaged in this kind of argument
It could have been avoided entirely and can be avoided in the future if you chose to tell me how things worked out in your mind instead of telling me the mechanics of the game, and responded directly to my concerns without insulting me. Most notably at your second response. You could have just said "Taric did tell your character, we assume dialogue between NPCs and players". And I would have gone "Oh, you should have made that a little clearer" and chances are that would be that, maybe with a minor amount of neutral quibbling about me complaining about minor things and you smashing my quibbles.

But instead you went to tell me what I already knew: "Taric is an NPC". I then said that it does not address what I'm asking, then you then insult me on how I use my turns after telling me in excessive detail about how things work, which to me looked like an attempt to lesser me. Which made me feel inclined to continued the argument further when there would have been a decent chance that I would have decided that that was that and stopped.

Anyway, I'm perfectly willing to be done if you want to be done. You should have told me earlier. There are many things I am and am not, but I'm pretty sure I am someone who listens to other people's wishes.

Quote
while those other than myself have attempted to reason with you on the side.
Serious' post wasn't reasoning, just saying that I should reread the post. Which I did. Taric's two posts were jokes/mostly unrelated questions.

False humility does not suit you. If this was true then you would have accepted the facts within the first four posts between us, as it is you're doing a remarkable job of dissecting a post to reply to it outside of any possible context. I'm done with it. I am here for release, some fun, and couple people who I enjoy talking to, that's it. Arguing with you is draining, stupid, pointless until you get a few more years on you (this is not demeaning, do not take it as such), and makes running this game about as much fun as my job. You're on your own. I wash my hands of this damn thing.

I'm taking a break from bay 12, I have work that can use the time from it.

No, it means that I took a work week off so I could cool down and catch up on some things that I'd ordinarily have to trade sleep for. Don't worry, I've worked on this for too long to leave.

Tarran, I like you, you remind of me, but I meant what I said. I'm not going to argue points with you again, it takes too much of my unfortunately limited time and energy. Instead I ask you to consider this. My job as a GM is exclusively to tell you what you cannot do. I tell you a wall is there so you can't run that way, I tell you that a door is locked so you have to find a way to open it, anything I tell you is said with the intent of narrowing down your possible options. Occasionally I'll through in a suggestion or a hint to an easy solution when you get a good roll, but that is more the exception than the rule. Your job as a player isn't to limit yourself, it's to find ways to push limits creatively. Wolfchild hacking the Shifting Man's signal through a wallscreen is the perfect example. I never said that could be done, in fact I hadn't even considered it, but more importantly, I never said it couldn't be done.
Separation of character and player is a good thing, but it can be taken it too far. Take a look at how any of the great GM/players go through their games, Dwarmin, IronyOwl, SC, DigitalHellhound, Gat, Piecewise, and learn from that.

Do not dissect this into soundbytes and reply to each individually. Just think about it.

Anyway, it's a Saturday night and I'm feeling alright. Let us step back in.

Tarran Smith

Quote
"Do you have any explosives or heavy weapons?"

Taric shrugs. "Nada, at least not any that I would break down a door with. The only heavy weapon I have is in my pa-"
You raise a hand to cut him off before he completes the joke. Honestly, he's the only person you know that would make a sex joke in the current circumstances.  The trouble is that you don't have many better options. There's the Ichneumon, though that would just a make a hole in the door, and your fists, which admittedly have done their fair share of demolition work.
[Observation 3] You hear a something unusual from above you, but you can't narrow it down further than unusual. It sounds like a woman swearing into a waterfall, but that's impossible.

---

Dominique Wakeman

Dom took off her chewed-up body armor and put on the medium set instead. Then she took both guns, all the ammo for them, put the Abassy back in its place, and wielded/reloaded the Cerico shotgun. Finally, she took the security card and headed into the men's bathroom to see what she could find there.

These guys aren't going to need them, and you can never have too many guns. First you take off your own body armor and switch for the better body armor on the shotgun wielding corpse. It might not be clean, but it's going to be a lot more effective than your old suit. Then you take the lot of the weapons, holstering your Abassy and juggling guns until you've got the new assault rifle on your back and the Shotgun reloaded and in hand. After you've got everything together, you grab the security card and stick it where you won't lose it.
You exit the women's after you've finished looting the dead, taking an immediate turn so you can take a look into the men's. Finding that kind of trove again might not be likely, but it's worth a shot. [Observation 2] [Luck 1] The door to the men's room seems to be stuck, not locked, you can feel it moving slightly when you tug, but it's definitely resisting. [Strength 4+1] You plant your feet and haul, wrenching the door halfway open in one titanic effort.
A wall of water, packed to the ceiling, seems to hesitate for a second on the other side of the door. Then it comes crashing out of the bathroom in a wave of liquid that's probably been steadily building since the people in this restaurant bit it. [Soak 2+1] You stagger backwards as the torrent of liquid continues to gush out of the half open door. You barely manage to keep your feet, but the wave knocks you back to the door that Taric hacked open. Water continues to flow out of the bathroom, obscenity continues to flow out of you.
Tarran is probably going to notice the small waterfall that's about to go upside his head, and he'll probably have questions.

Charge

Spoiler: Initiative (click to show/hide)

You lunge forwards for another quick stab with your bone spike. [Melee 1] [Luck 5] You overextend, and for a moment it looks like the Deadhead is going to get a free shot at your ribs, but you manage to get a foot under your momentum and turn a bad miss into a potential backhand. [Melee 1] It doesn't work out quite that well. You throw yourself further off balance, except now your legs are too twisted beneath you to be of any real use as stabilizers. [Deadhead melee 2 Vs Dodge 5+1-1] Had the deadhead been anything but a mindless hulk with serious skin problems, you might have been in trouble, but as it is you're able to get out of the way via a thoroughly ungraceful method of hopping and sliding.
The deadhead, confused by your St. Vitus dance, attacks you again. [Melee 1] [Luck 3] Missing wildly and letting you slip in with an opportunistic stab. [Aaron Melee 3 Vs Deadhead Dodge 4] You're still off balance from your own attempted attack run, and you aren't quite fast enough to get that spike in before the deadhead withdraws.
Paula, her weapon too dangerous to attempt to use when both you and Cale are engaging in close combat, retrieves your lost knife instead of opening fire.
Cale attacks the deadhead from behind, eschewing the fancy strikes for a straight stab. [Melee 3+1 Vs Dodge 3] [Brawl 3] The crude blade only glances along the deadhead's side, cutting armor but drawing little blood. (Deadhead Armor -3, HP -12)
Henry, no longer burdened by having a deadhead within striking distance, takes his time to line up a shot. Aiming carefully in on the remaining deadhead while you and Cale tie it up in melee.

Ashley Fey

Explore further

You lead Jordan and Harry down into the hub of the starfish shaped halls. Each of the arms extends for quite some distance, terminating sharply with a dead wall at the end of each arm. Each arm has thirteen rooms on each side, five arms and a bit of math gives it one-hundred and thirty rooms. Assuming you could clear each room in three minutes, and the three of you split up to bring your effective search speed to one minute per room, it would still take more than two hours to clear this place. An amount of time that you can't afford to just sink, and that's just for a sweep and clear.

James Evan

Watching the sky morph, and figuring that the acolyte was the cause of it, James slapped the ORS on himself, and then shot at the mold-arm. At this point, it might be his only hope.

Spoiler: Initiative (click to show/hide)

Your shadow, not content with partially incinerating the woman, throws a one armed punch. From twenty feet away. [Will 2 Vs Will 4] His hand stops in mid air, held to inaction by the woman's will. "Get the box!" Your double yells, straining to move his fist an inch against the invisible binds.
The waitress, still covered in acid, smiles at your shadow contemptuously. I brought you into this world," her fist clenches at her side, mimicking the shadow's fist that she holds still. "And I can take you out of it." [Acolyte will 1 Vs James Will 2] Something slips strangely, a screen blip that encompasses the world. The woman freezes, her own fist stopped in mid-air. Had the battle not been deadly serious, the scene would have been comical. A topless waitress, covered in silver goo, and a one armed version of you with enough sand and grime on him that he strongly resembles a mite, both caught cold in the action of throwing a punch at a target that they couldn't possibly hit.
You take the frozen moment to place an ORS tablet on your flesh. None of the damage you've taken has lasted beyond a few seconds, [luck 3] but the ORS sinks in slowly anyway. It doesn't feel like it's taking its full effect, but at least it'll be something. (Dreamspace HP +5) That done, you turn your gun on the waitress, or rather her back. [Quickshot 5-2+1] The shotgun is hardly a precision tool, but you do a fine job of getting it aimed down on her frozen body. For a moment, there is something like fear in her eyes. (Hp -15, -10, -11, -7, -9, -15) The blast sends her to the ground, knocking her out of the Mexican standoff between her and your Shadow.  She starts to get back up again, but the flying knife coming around for another pass prevents you from watching. [Knife Melee 2 Vs Dodge 4] You duck the blade again, rolling to the side before it perforates your liver.
   [Blight Str 3, End 3+1, Int 3, Will 1, Luck 2. 13/50]
[Luck 3] The jet black tendrils touch down, spreading over the island and completely occluding whatever they touch. The nearest is a pillar of darkness spreading through the ocean, maybe fifteen from the shore. Another, many times farther away, pierces through the forest, and one a few hundred feet down the beach devours sand. This is only going to get worse.
