"Taricus, get yourself a wife and leave us out of your porn dreams. Or I'll slap you with my shoulder plate again so hard you'll be in the hospital for a week. And I'll demote you to a rank lower than private."

Help Dom with the door.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Going to have to wait until after midnight for an update (5 hours from now), VERY nearly out of bandwidth and uploading the images will cost through the nose if I run dry.

I'll probably write the turn and prep the maps before then though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dominique Wakeman, Tarran Smith

With a sigh, Dom gave up on finding a light in her inventory. All she had was guns and a grenade. And a bit of food and the storage device with the romance novels on it, but neither were particularly pertinent at the moment. "I'm going to try opening these," she said, indicating the heavy sliding doors to the south. With a little bit of muscle I might be able to force 'em open.
"Taricus, get yourself a wife and leave us out of your porn dreams. Or I'll slap you with my shoulder plate again so hard you'll be in the hospital for a week. And I'll demote you to a rank lower than private."

Help Dom with the door.

James and Tarran step forwards to deal with the doors, [Str 5+1, 2] between the pair of them the door isn't a problem. It opens onto a short stairway, leading down to a pair of double doors. How many damn doors does one place need? [Observation 3] In Tarran's light you're able to read an engraved label above the door, "Mavaren Memorial Garden".

Well that doesn't sound so bad.

---

James Evan

"I guess I could help." James ram-charged the sliding doors.

The others have already gotten those doors, Darn. Hey wait, at the bottom of the stairs, more doors! You happily charge and leap off the top step, pulling into a flying kick. [Strength 5+1 Vs Blockage 4] You hit the right door squarely and it blasts open, filling the air with the stench of ancient wet rot, a great change from the dry smell of the other bodies. [Will 4] You manage to do little more than gag when you realize that the resistance against the door was a very rotten body, a body that broke apart when you forced your way through, spreading decayed flesh and bone over a broad spread in front of the door.

[Tarran Will 3, Dom 3] The other two gag when the smell hits them, can't blame them. Tarran goes in, giving a pretty good feel for the size of the garden.

Which is huge. The shadows extend beyond the reach of Tarran's light, though the cieling isn't far overhead. Instead of metal the ground beneath your feet is... just ground. Rotted, stinking ground covered in a light coat of long dead weeds, but ground. You can see several trees that were once carefully pruned, now lack of light makes them little more than chunks of rotten wood. The light also reveals several other corpses, in much worse shape than the others, apparently there's enough moisture in the air for them to putrefy rather than mummify.

---

Taric Sizier

Head to the main group, acting as as the light source for the rear guard.

You go with the flow, following Tarran into the Gardens. [Will auto-success] Mmm, rotten bodies. You toe through the exploded remains of the corpse that was jamming the door, [Observation 4] the pieces crumble at the touch of your foot, but under a chunk of what used to be the man's torso you see a glint of something shiny. Leaning down you find a pad, [Mechanical 3+1] definitely drained of power, and probably needing a through cleaning before anyone else wants to touch it.

---

Ashley Fey

Ash mutters to herself "Ok, dehydration, not too odd, but still not exactly encouraging" She turns to taricus, "Hey thanks for the light, but i think it would be prudent to stick with the others" Ashley Follows the main group, with her and her men acting as a rear guard, just in case something comes down that other corridor

You and your boys follow the tail of the group, making sure that nothing comes out of the darkness from behind. You hadn't expected this, stiff resistance and gunfighting yes, potential for the mission failing when you hit the rock a little to hard yes, dark and abandoned corridors filled with corpses was honestly not something you'd considered. [Luck 4] Nothing comes out of the darkness, and except for breathing and occasional talking there isn't a sound in the air.

"You know this silence is unnerving, i would almost be more comfortable if we were fighting, let's Not split up ok" Ashly and her men walk carefuly through the garden, sticking with the others and on the lookout for anything that may shed some light on what happened here "Also unless the guys out there died of a different cause than the ones in here, i don't think it was dehydration"

Draignean, I suggest you post the map at the bottom of the turn so we don't view it before our actions. It spoils the surprise.

Anyway, "We should split up, but as little as possible, so we can cover this room more quickly and so we can flank enemies if they only attack one of our groups. First, someone close those doors so no one sneaks up behind. Dom, James, stay close. Ashley, lead your squad and Taric to the right, we'll go to the left. Make sure you don't aim your light in one direction for too long, don't let any potential ambushers get any opportunities. Don't go too far, either."

Go down the right (overhead map view). Make sure to constantly patrol the light around. Also, get an SMG out and into my left hand.

"THat does make sense, alright boys were going with that guy that turned his gun into a flashlight" (Ash hasnt realy seen enough of taric to call him the creepyone yet)
Follow the plan in the quote, still looking for a way to make sense of this place though, and keeping one eye on taricus, and one of my men keeping one of his eyes on the other group

edit: just realised Ash does not realy trust you guys yet so i changed my action a little (its still basicaly the same but with a small sprinkling of paranoiya)

"You sure, boss?" Dom asked nervously. It was true Taric was the only other guy with a light, but he was kind of a pencil-necked geek when it came down to it. If the other three were to turn on him - and she still wasn't sure they wouldn't yet - he wouldn't be able to fight them off. "Maybe you should hand me or James the light and keep Taric with you," she said. "But it's your call, if that's what you wanna do, then OK." She'd stated her opinion, that was all she could do. For now she stayed by Tarran's side, kneeling by a corpse to search it.

"He'll be fine. While those three don't strike me as very good friends, they also don't strike me as people easily ticked off enough to shoot a person.

Regardless, if they shoot him and possibly kill him, retribution will be swift."

It is in a spoiler tag....

Still, I see your point.

Hmm...

I'm going to need a bigger image size. (My map for this floor of the facilty is like three 3500px sheets... the current image is only 1000px)

Making little corpses and doing light&shadow really takes some time, but it adds something to the atmosphere. (That and it disguises how badly drawn the corpses are.) :P

Working on the map, turn will be up later after powder posts.

Sorta...

*Sigh* I must now reveal how un-awesome I am... You just make your base image and then make a shader layer, you paint the shader layer with 90-98% opacity black. To give the impression of light you take an eraser tool and set it to 15-25% opacity and make rays originating from your light source, you then go back over that with a blur tool to make it seamless, and then you use a smudge tool to smear the light forwards slightly, feathering the edges to make it look better.

Colored light is a similar process but you add a third shader overlay onto the area you want to effect. The statics are just pixel art attached to a sub-layer (So they can be moved/destroyed/whatever without effecting the primary) that has its colorize settings slaved to the primary layer.

I can't do this kind of map in MSpaint. I'm just not that awesomesauce.  :-[

That's what I mean by hand. When I was doing maps in CvRTD I just took several screenshots of maps in Metroid: Zero Mission and altered the composition to suit my needs. Takes a little time and effort but not nearly as much as what you're doing. ^^

Don't worry, D, I wouldn't be able to do that in MSPaint either. It's just not built for that kind of stuff. It's built for... very, very bare bones artwork.
