Because it basically ammounts to arbitrarily decreeing that some people don't get to vote.

Isn't that more or less like saying that democracy sucks because it doesn't give a king power over his people?

I'll continue browsing the thread regardless.

No, it's more or less saying that you intend to restrict other people's rights because of your preconceived biases. I don't even know what your comment is supposed to mean. You are the one arguing to restrict power to hand-picked elites of your liking, not me

Bleurgh, politics. Everyone's an asshole to a degree, but at least we can choose which one would annoy us the least.

Democracy might be like Russian roulette, but it's a lot better than staring down the barrel of the cannon of the autocrat.

The comment was comparing what a king would think of democracy as to what you are saying about aforementioned idea. I'm all for freedom, but you wouldn't put someone in a manager position if they've never even had a job before, so why would you let people with no political knowledge vote? It's not like "These are the people that can vote, and these are the people that can't. They can never change who they are." No, if you would want to vote, you should be able to take courses and make an actual effort to learn so that you can have that right. Just like a person who wants a manager position would have to work for it.

All I'm saying is you really shouldn't dismiss a general idea before looking at all the ways it could be put to use.

Also, sorry for the derail MetalSlime.

Lastly,
@MetalSlimeHunt; You don't mind some discussion in the thread, do you? I'll stop, if you want us to keep to the polling.
Discussion is what the forum is about, so feel free to discuss all you like.
Also, sorry for the derail MetalSlime.
Seems on-topic to me.

Many representative systems of government (and they overlap with democracies quite often) are designed to keep change as slow as possible, because it's so damn hard to get anything useful done, either positive or negative.  The way I see it, when a new democracy is formed, people set the laws and constitution to be the absolute best that their people can imagine...and keep it from changing too much.  Eventually, that government falls apart, and gets rebooted, hopefully to a system that's even better than the last one.  So, all governments die.  But democracies die slower, and are less prone to sudden catastrophic breakdown.

I can't figure out how to state my views in the context of the question's metaphor, but I disagree with it.  Strongly.

The next decade or two will be bad for Western nations because of poor demographic outlook.  The rest of the world will suffer due to monetary inflation from the Western nations.  Things won't look better until 2020 or so.

Does misunderstanding also cover differing opinions?
