General strategy

-Reinforce Saipan with fixed defenses and engineers. Guam with air servicing crews.
-Create a submarine screen east of the Marianas to detect incoming ships.
-Stockpile supplies on Saipan.

I don't know what to do with the land based fighters. The CAP's will be totally swarmed, if I ground the planes and wait for the main fleet, I expect a shitload of them to be destroyed on the ground. Tinian, Saipan and Guam have pretty much the same airfield capacity and planes as each other.

I think it would be best to relocate as many fighters as possible to Guam and when the yanks come, protect Guam's airspace. Guam would be slightly easier to defend than Saipan due to its +1 better airfield level and more westward position.

I'm guessing you will have to focus on one, or lose both.

Or focus on one, loosing both  :P

In the western front Germany spread its fighters out to survive against the total air superiority of the allies. I am considering doing something similar and bunkering down waiting for our carriers! If I bunch planes on Guam and the Americans break through the air defence, they will massacre the planes on the airfield :(

I'm bad at admiraling. I generally send my ships headlong into the enemy line and get them utterly wiped out.

Whoops.

May 22 1944

-Transfered fighter-bombers to Guam (My group!!!)
-2 level bomber groups and 1 dive bomber group are heavily training in Peleliu in naval strike operations.
-Troops, engineers and air crews are being packed up on Peleliu, Babeldaob and Iwo Jima with Saipan as their destination.
-Submarine I10 and I-5 have left Peleliu loaded with mines. They will drop these off the coast of Saipan.
-Destroyers refitted for transport leave Truk in the south to bring supplies to Saipan.
-Some long range float planes are flying in heavy equipment from Peleliu to Saipan, while still maintaining search patrols.
-The airfields of Guam and Saipan are being expanded.

Report

The SS I-8 west of Hawaii has spotted a large fleet sailing west, it was attacked by an american float plane but sustained no damage.

Four submarines have spotted a very large amount of transport ships passing Tarawa in the South East. They are moving in to try and score some torpedo hits.

Float planes have reported many American submarine sightings. Patrol boats will be patrolling all the islands around Peleliu and try to sink a few. These could endanger transport convoys to Saipan.
