I'm trying to use overseer, and it says the windows not open, even though it is.

Overseer is out-dated, Stonesense with the memory patch is the only working visualizer for .18 right now, and it doesn't display animals yet (needs some more patching from the creator).

I'm good with no animals, but how do i install the memory patch? Looks like a bunch of gibberish.

It is, but you don't have to deal with it.  Save the memory patch, and save it to the Stonesense directory, it will replace the existing memory file and should work.  It's a bit crashy though, people report instability after a few minutes, but I'm prone to think this is related to fortress size.  My 3x3 refused to crash Stonesense.

Search at the top for "stonesense official thread" it has the memory file available on the first post.  Just right click - save - replace.

Okay, now it says the "It asked to be terminated in an unusual way"

Start over entirely.  Delete the stonesense folder.  Install a new version of it.  Replace memory file.  Run DF, then run Stonesense.
