Errr... Sorry for the massive delay.
First off, some exposition on what was happening during the age, as a partial replacement to all the fluff I never did.
A s time passed, the Hinor became more attuned to the second sun, compounded by the effects of the mutagenic radiation that it released. The effect of this, is that some Hinor had hair that glowed phosphorescently when casting magic, and were born with a innate connection and a high level of natural talent at pyromancy and magic, these Hinor were called "Chosen of the Sun", and although only a few were born a year, and the city had only a few dozen of them. However, these gifts weren't without their downsides, as The Chosen of the Sun frail, and unless their health was propped up by magic, sickly.
Through much of the forth age, starting after the destruction of the guild and the founding of the Order of the White Shield, immigration into Ljus Faller began in earnest, while not nearly enough to significantly increase the rate of its growth, but enough to be widely and easily noticed, and change Ljus Faller. The reason they came was obvious, where else was such a egalitarian society to be found, while in many other cities were controlled by merchants, or despotic lords or oligarchs, ruling through physical or magical might, the Hinor were some of the only truly fair people, no matter your race or background, as long as you were willing to work help ensure the future of Ljus Faller and the Hinor, you would reap the benefits of your labor. Although at the start of the age, their was little immigration, after all they had only contacted a few cities, and despite the fact that they largest civilization that the Hinor had contact with was, while not hostile, wasn’t on the best terms with them, the amount of immigration they got quickly fairly steadily as the Hinor explored more an more of the world. Indeed, the immigrants were welcomed, and shared a equal place in Ljus Faller, although they didn’t obtain very many leadership positions due to the fact that most of them were, at least initially, poor immigrants without a education or any type of leadership position.
Lucien was deep in thought. His power was vast, and he was by far the most potent of any of the mages in the city, and was capable of single handedly taking on many of the top archmages that resided in the city at the same time. The reason was his mantle, originally a tiny thing, it had swelled with the birth of more Hinor and the recent immigration at last count Ljus Faller and the colonies had 52 thousand souls, while some of them were immigrants, estimated at one or two thousand, that left fifty thousand Hinor each contributing part of their ability through their mantles to those they subconsciously thought best embodied those traits. While Lucien wasn’t quite sure how many mantles he had he was sure he had the vast majority, and while local figures and the other archmages making up the difference. While a Mantle fragment from a unskilled individual was a trifling thing, worth less then a tenth of a percent of the strength of a skilled mage, a thousand would double the strength of one as far as he was able to tell. Five thousand would double the strength of a archmage. For physical strength it was more obvious, Allegro, the general was famous for his strength and speed, it was said that he could charge a running bull and stop it in its tracks. It was said that he could catch a arrow in mid flight and run a hundred meters in 9 seconds in full armor, Lucien had seen some of his displays and they were not far exaggerated, although it obviously depended on what part of his Mantle he allowed to fully express itself, he was still far stronger then any Hinor had a right to be. Lucien wondered what would happen when the city grew, and his mantle expanded, with a hundred thousand contributing to his Mantle, could Allegro run faster then the eye could follow? With a Mantle of a million what would be his own limit would his body be able to handle it, or would his power expand to fit his new Mantle, would he be as strong as every mage alive in the city, strong enough to destroy it single handidly, strong enough to burn the forests to the south, or level the hills to the north?
I know whats going to happen for my age end report and have it about half written up, and will ACTUALLY post it tomorrow.
Vanigo, I hope its not too late, I noticed a error in my turn, I (somehow) didn't say that my settlers were going to settle the area with the shadow emeralds, but I recorded the money loss. Obviously you didn't have them settle it, since I didn't even say that they were, could you have it fixed anyways please?
If your answer is yes, could you have the colony named Emerald Cove
It was first noticed a few days before the celebration of the winter solstice, a archaic tradition in Ljus Faller due to the fact that within and near the city it was permanent summer and from when winter had a real meaning to the Hinor. The mages and scholars examining the second sun noticed it first, the second sun was slightly dimmer then it had been a week before, a difference too tiny to be noticed by the naked eye of one who wasn't a powerful mage, but its difference on magic was (with effort and experimentation) noticeable. As if spurred on by being discovered, it began to dim faster and faster, and on the day of the solstice, two hours after the sun rose, the second sun went out completely.
For a few days the second sun was visible, a giant crystalline structure in the sky, far enough away that to the naked eye the details were undetectable, but many plans were made to explore it more completely, from pooling the cities resources to summon a fire elemental to explore it, or trying to fly up to it in a spirit trance (something that no one was crazy enough to attempt). However the discussion proved moot, when instead of staying off like expected or even turning back on again, something that no one was expecting occurred: the second sun got even darker, seeming to emit darkness, or absorb the light of the sun, no one was sure which it was. When the event came to pass, the Second Sun was renamed to The Dark Star.
The darkness was geographically limited, only really effecting the city proper, but in the city the effects were huge, the city went from 24 hours of light, and 12 hours of two burning suns, to 12 hours of twilight, and 12 hours of perfect darkness, where not even the moon or the stars could be seen. Perhaps its most bizarre effect was that instead of suppressing the powers of mages who relied on the sun for magic in the city there powers were slightly amplified, even to the extent of causing sun amber to glow incandescent in the city, and mages to have a aura of light, with the The Dark Star seemingly the source, although the light was completely undetectable until it reached a area withing the mages influence, seeming to pass invisibly through the intervening air. Thus, while it wasn't perfect or anywhere near what it had been, large portions of the city were still lit at all times, using the sun amber as lighting, and strong mages providing external light to the areas they lived in.
The temperature within Ljus Faller and the surrounding environs dropped sharply to more normal levels for the environment. However the temperature of the city proper dropped by a large amount, as did the temperature of the parts of the desert, due to the fact that their was no longer any extra heat, and even a slight reduction in the heat.
Perhaps the biggest difference in the weather however was snow, due to the high altitude that snow and rain occur at and how the The Dark Star, sucked all the heat away high above the city, the rainclouds that would usually pass over the city without incident instead poured down in torrents with far greater consistency then they used too, while due to a twist of fate their were extreme blizzards in parts of the desert, a complete 180 turn from the burning desert.
Perhaps the most important effect was the effect that it had on the inhabitants of the city, the sharp contrast between what was normal in Ljus Faller, eternal light, and what became normal, almost no light, it was akin to living in a cave, and the effect on people's happiness was huge.
Social effects of the event in more detail will be finished tomorrow (yes, yes I already said that about a dozen things but still).
So, looking at it, the possible effects for my age-end event are pretty big.
First off its necessary to take away my second sun food bonus (or what amounts to 5 food per turn at this point).
Secondly, a passive moral reduction (-1 or -2) would, while not
strictly necessary, probably be the correct thing to do, since the site was originally settled for the second sun, while the effect is now entirely reversed.
A neutral effect would be changing one of the deserts (preferably not the one that I have the sun amber in), into a tundra/other type of snow tile (with the same exact effects as the desert, but just being a different color).
The bonuses (if any, depending on if you are giving penalties this age or bonuses) are a bit harder to think of, a +1 or +2 to magical attack and/or defense for the capital proper wouldn't be amiss, since those would be some of the effects of the second sun (or whatever it should be called now that its inverse, the black hole?), but would be completely irrelevant, since my capital has never been attacked by a serious force, and even a serious force would probably go trash my colonies first.
A extra magic gem somewhere in Ljus Faller would possibly make sense, something darkness or ice based wouldn't be too amiss given the effects of a giant source of magic going out and a equal massive alternate force being deployed in addition to all the weather changes.
