Ochita, you need two labor to make elemental charms, not just one. Also, remember how, when you explored three squares south of the city, your unit took damage? If you send those guys even further south, they'll take even more damage. They'll... survive. Probably.

IronyOwl, you've made the same mistake. Your enchanter's workshop won't be ready until next turn, so three labor only nets you one and a half units of air charms.

Also, I decided windborne arrows should be a bit better.

Er, whoops. That's what I get for doing my turn distracted. :-\

Also, I realize you can't reveal specifics, but Field Medics sound like they'd be a lot better than Mages. Is there something about the system that makes +1 Attack for -1 Defense more comparable to about +40-50% health?

+1 magic attack. It's a 50% boost, usually, and there aren't many ways to raise magic attack. And magic attack is potent.

6 is probably too much though. I should drop it to 4.

Ah, it ignores normal defense or something, doesn't it?

Er, does that mean they don't work with normal units, or that a mage-equipped unit attacks both normally and with a (presumably much lower) magic attack as well?

Also I had to open my big mouth. :I

Magic attacks replace normal attacks, but you can have a magic ranged attack and a normal melee attack (or, in theory, vice-versa). You can't use both in the same round, though.
I don't know why they wouldn't work well with normal attackers. Or do you mean magic attack weapons don't do well when you give them to units without Mages (or Sorcerers)? They aren't as good, certainly...

Most units have no magic attack listed, so I wasn't sure how that would interact with something that increases it. It still sounds like a unit's normal attacks would be overwritten by any magic attacks it had, making mage-assisted archers much worse than mage-assisted mages. Which isn't the same as being worse than non-mage-assisted archers, of course, but it does raise some questions.

Oh, Specialists: Mages doesn't do any good on a unit with no magical weapons. It gives +1 attack to any already-magical attack, but if you don't have one, all it does is reduce your defense. Fire charms are kind of the opposite - they give +1 attack to any nonmagical attacks you have, and if you had a magical melee attack and either a magical ranged attack or no ranged attack at all, they wouldn't do a thing.

UNRELATED SUBJECT:
Acutally looking closer at Ochita's stuff, it looks like he half-built some earth charms last turn and I gave them to him when I shouldn't have, so that labor can finish them this turn.

However, now that I've gone back and looked at his last turn, it looks like he just copied his last turn and changed his military orders. Ochita, do you still actually care about this game, or are you just going through the motions? At the very least, you need to change your research goal to something else; you got The Plow already.

Eh, that's okay. Never seen a game of this go so long without a dropout. In fact, I've hardly ever seen a game of this go so long period.

Anyway, adwarf has first dibs on the open slot if he wants it. If he doesn't, someone else can join.

Alright, all cleared up now.

Anyway, I assume the longevity has something to do with you using programs to speed things along. Or maybe you're just incredibly hard-working, but I assume it's the program(s). :P

There's only the one program, actually, and it only handles combat. Personally, I attribute it to the "RP is not mandatory" thing. Well, that and me being awesome. My original game is, I believe, the only one to die due to player apathy rather than mod apathy.

It only takes 2-3 hours to do a turn, usually, unless there's a big battle to write up or something.
