I accidentally my baby.

So, I made one creature with four castes, based on a horse.

Caste1 has a humanoid body.
Caste2 has a quadruped_hoof body.

Creature: Cross1
Caste1: Cross1_1Male
Caste2: Cross1_2Female
Caste3: Cross2_1Male
Caste4: Cross2_2Female

Basically a classic XY XX YY YX situation.

I also made color variants, too, but I forgot to take out another set of colors which has rendered the color crossbreeding mute (D'oh!).






Nevertheless, MY EXPERIMENT WAS A...MONSTER! Success, but a monster.

This is why you shouldn't poke your cousins, children.

I really want to see more !!SCIENCE!! on this subject. Perhaps we can get a semi-humanoid dwarf. What if you crossbred say a dwarf with a horn with one eye and a dwarf with a claw and three legs.

The game prevents races from crossbreeding but it doesn't prevent two castes with different bodies from doing so. The result is a hybrid I guess.

Wait, no, I don't think it is in quite the way I thought it was but still cool. Nevermind.

Speaking of which I wonder if DF will one day get REAL object synthesis (item/item/, creature/creature, so on?)

Judging by screenshots, Azkanan used one caste as a template for another. I am unsure about it, so I ask.

P.S. And of course two castes can crossbreed. MALE and FEMALE are different castes after all... So I still don't get what's cool here, and I would like to know the method to build body trees like that (templates which are used to make animal creatures come to mind).

I didn't know Genesis dorfs can crossbreed.

I must try this.

ALL genesis dwarves can breed with each other, and they have different castes (well, they have to be of different genders still).

Also in vanilla antmen can breed. And humans, goblins and other too. Because they have a MALE and FEMALE castes which can crossbreed.

Well, it seemed an ingenuitive idea at the time! I didn't know if it would work, or how it would work, at all beforehand. Bringing it to the forefront of the Modding Board for newbies too, I guess?

No, I think he means that two wildly different male and female castes can breed with a result that is different from either of them. The point is not the breeding itself, it's the result. At least that's what I gathered.

Yeah, that's what I didn't get. What did you make to get SAKDLSADS. Did you make some part of the caste to be dependant on the original two so it makes "cycle" or something? I wonder HOW did you make it.
