try polycyclic sleeping

6 20min power naps per day, evenly spaced through the 24 hours

I could have sworn that was supposed to be 2 hours asleep and 6 awake, so you get a full cycle.

I'm glad to not be the only one with odd sleep patterns.

I never used to be able to eat breakfast either. Since working nights I've woken most evenings to a full meal with my folks and the rest of the family. I recently had a full, yet vegetarian friendly, Sunday roast only two hours after rising. It's admittedly a little strange facing so much food so early but even when waking at normal times I get hungry straight away now.

I do actually need 8 hours of sleep most nights to keep myself on an even keel.  I learn a lot better when I'm well-slept.
...
On the other hand, I'm still pretty young... 21 years old, so my brain is still adjusting itself.  My sleep requirements have decreased by 3 hours over the past year, so I suspect they'll continue to go down over the next little bit.
Sounds like you've deliberately toyed with your sleeping habits before. Ever see how few hours you can get by on per night over extended periods? For me it's between five and six hours but it always goes awry when something interrupts my normal schedule.

8-ish is definitely best, but I can function on lower.  6/day is generally fine for psychological health as long as I don't have any tests and can sleep a lot on the weekends.

On the other hand, it is now 1:23 AM and I will probably be up for another hour and a half yet, because I feel like writing an interesting argument for my rhetoric course.  Go figure.  It will soon disappear into the internet-ether, but at least it will amuse me while it lasts.

5-6 hours is generally enough. Occasionally 4 is enough too.
Not that I'll function at full capacity, but that isn't needed in most cases anyway.

... It's 2:18 and I'm still working on my gosh-darned philosophy thing.

It seems like the only way I can understand this is to dissect it in this fashion, though, so that's what I'm doing.  I wouldn't have a chance, otherwise.

Wow, you people hardly sleep at all. I sleep for 11-12 hours no matter when I go to sleep and can sleep effectively at any time after about 12pm, before then it takes me a while to get to sleep.

Stayed up through 4 working on the forum, got up at 7, and got back to work.

Whoo~  Somehow, I'm still energetic.

I'm up around 5am each morning (4:30am on Sundays). Usually in bed shortly after midnight, sometimes more sometimes less. Was like 9:45pm last night -- wiped out.

Some night I wind up staying up till 2am or so. Those hurt.

On average though, I'd say I function on about 4-6 hours of sleep a night, occasionally a bit more on Thursdays and Fridays if my son decides to sleep in a bit. Then about once every 3 or 4 weeks, I'll crash and sleep like 16 hours on a day off.

I'm probably shortening my lifespan from lack of sleep, but it's damn near impossible for me to go to sleep unless I'm exhausted.

I sleep from ~2 am to ~6 am, but I can't stay asleep for more than like 2 hours at a time for some reason. So I wake up 3-4 times in a night.
