Freetown (A Human-succession Fort)
« on: February 05, 2011, 04:12:40 pm »

One second, I am commenting on the countess's arse, the next, I am in this forsaken place...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But I am getting a head of myself. I have been "granted" the "honour" of being the escort of a new town called "Freetown" (What a creative name)

Nothing much as happen beside some woodcutting, but I have a feeling. A feeling that this will be quite a town...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, a succession fort. I, at first, wanted this to be my own game, but then I liked the embark so much I decided to make it a succession. There a few ground rules, however...

1. Iron is acceptable, but no steel or cotten candy.
2. The fort must be above-ground. No Human-Dwarf hybrids. Mines, however, are acceptable.
3. Most buildings must be made out of wood. Walls, mine entrances, keeps, towers, and castles are the only things that can be made out of stone.
4. There must be a seperate building for everything. A town hall in which everyone dines and sleeps is acceptable AT FIRST. Once you are capable of making a house of everyone, it must be done.
5. There must be a castle/keep for the king/Count or Duke.

The embark area is next to lake, it is also quite large, so take heed those with bad computers. I also embarked before any labor requests could be made, sorry bout' that  :-\.

It is also worth noting that we have no anvil or picks. Seeing as they are not needed yet.

I will no play the first year.

Spoiler: Area (click to show/hide)

Turn List (I'm not playing :P)

3. Karl Marx
4. Carcanken
5. bayar
6.

Requesting a miner named "Karl Marx" with the profession "Miner Marx"

Eh... I'm not sure you'd want that, the whole place would be a jumbled mess, I've no experience with above ground building and the like, I've never heard of an underground town, and I don't think nobles would enjoy living in a dark dank cave.

Posting to keep track of this. No turn though, as I'm bad with succesion forts.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I would do it,
but I never use the ascii graphics, nor do I know how to post screenshots.
If any of you can tell me how to post screenshots and convert the successiongame to may-day's graphics set, I would glady join.

You just need download the file, take the world, and drop it into your game! Simple!

Also, taking screenshots for me works like this. Use Alt-PrtScr, go to paint and paste. Save, upload, view  8).

Haha, I see my obsession with non-optimal races is shared. I was going to host one of these embarking atop an already-made human fortress myself, at some point.

I would gladly opt for this game, but my experiences with large-scale above ground building have been... somewhat discouraging, to say the least. Honestly, it can be brutal, even with 10k starting points worth of free stone.  :-[

Such as it is, could I just "man-up" instead?

(As available- I doubt you want to make a swordsman of your starting seven)
Name: Ibid
Profession: Swordsman
Sex: Male
Stat preference for agility and spatial sense.

If you have trouble finding more players, I'll consider climbing all the way aboard. I love this stuff.

Oh, some questions:

- You mentioned that mines are ok. What of catacombs, wine cellars, storage basements, etc.?
- Also, if the terrain permits, would be acceptable to carve little fortress/keep from the "living rock," i.e. cut a standing tower of stone from the hill or mountain and building into that? Chaitya halls of India and at least one near-eastern Roman settlement come to mind.
- What "ethnicity" are these humans? Dark-skinned southerners, pale-skinned northerners...?
- Just how large is the embark? Above 5x5 and I tend to lag. :(

If I start a human fort everyone will be dead in the first year, but I'd be good to go at least second.

I will go third, provided someone explains how to import a world to my game, I have no concept of "sucession" but have always been interested.

I'll go fourth then, as I was already planning for third.

I'll claim the fifth then (just remember to have a defensive wall or channel in place early to stop those fucking kidnappers).
