I can't get to options. Is there any other way to save a game?

Well, if your fortress crumbles to its end, your game will be saved automatically. So just keep DF running until that happens.

The game is only saved when you exit through the menu, the fort dies/is abandoned or on autosave if it's enabled. Autosave is on season start or, I think, yearly and can be changed in one of the init files.

Can you get to options, but not save, or not get to options at all, even by clicking the "x" at the top right of the screen?

If you're in a menu, you can't save for whatever reason.  You have to get back to where you can see the map before you can save.

Thankyou All, I just destroyed the Fort, unFORTunatley ahahahahahaha!!!!! hundreds of dwarves died!

It was because of a keybinding error in the file, it was Escape instead of ESC.
