[38c] Sunken goblin tower
« on: April 03, 2008, 09:44:00 am »

When embarking on top of a goblin fortress, I found that one of the towers was actually based substantially below ground level, resulting in a deep pit dropping down to the fortified towertop. Is that supposed to happen? One corner of the tower was above ground, which might have thrown the height algorithms off kilter.

The other odd thing, now I look again, is that there isnt any way to get into the tower (other than flying).

Sounds like it chose the low corner for its base height.

You sure there isn't a stairway down somewhere?

I've run into one or two of them. Also in human towns. There's always a ramp or stair, though.

Aren't goblin towers connected by underground tunnels?

I had another look around, but still couldnt see anything... Would it be invisible until discovered or something in fortress mode? I couldnt see any down stairways on the floors I could see...

[Edit] Except the floors above the other floors I could see. They had downward stairs to the upward stairs I could see on the floors below. That I could see. Because the floors with the downward stairs that I could see were above the other floors I could see. That probably wasn't terribly illuminating. But it was fun to type. [/Edit]

Having thrown herself down the mercifully small drop to the top of the tower, my newly spawned adventurer (well, my third newly spawned adventuret) was able to confirm that there were no hidden exits at the bottom.

I belive that goblins used to have tunnels under their towers but it was taken out somewhat recently.

I assume because they would do a bunch of inadvisable things like digging into ponds and rivers and such.

I've seen a building get placed such that it had an entrance facing the ground floor like it should ... and then a cliff all of one tile further.
