(38c)Magma calves don't incinerate until restart
« on: April 03, 2008, 12:01:00 am »

Those calves didn't melt until I restarted DF, whereupon they burst into flames and smoked immediately.

I'd been pitting my animal abortions from above for like 10 or 20 animals: some piglets, a couple of horse foals, a cow calf or two, and those muskox babies.

*I'm not trying to go out of my way to abort baby animals with magma but my processor thanks me for it.

EDIT: (This is just on vanilla DF)

Just a thought: Had you changed the temperature settings in the INI recently?
the states of the options won't change until you restart a session; so if you'd been playing with the settings that is rather possible.
I know I tend to flop between on and off for temperature as I need trash to get incinerated or just to play; the temp kills my framerate but lava won't dispose of trash without it so...

anyway, I know it's pretty obvious, but best to make certain, you know?

Pigs, and thus piglets, do not exist in native DF.

And yeah, my bet's on the init.txt temp, but only if the other creatures didn't go poof.  If the other creatures got incinerated (and didn't just drown), then there's something weird going on.

No I didn't change temperature settings.

And I should have specified that they were Warthog piglets. In any case, it's my animal baby disposal.

If there's a save before the animal that drops that reproduces it, I can use that.  Otherwise I have no idea.

Not this time. I'll bear that in mind from now on though.

I have had this error with other animals as well [38c], it seems it reproduces when multiple animals are dropped onto the same magma filled spot in short order.

Just a semi-educated guess, but maybe it's related to the code that handles magma disposal when temperature is off.  The items just vanish instead of melting or burning, but they do it shortly after hitting bottom.  Maybe if you drop a whole bunch at once, it'll miss a few, and even bug the temperature settings?
