Okay, I chose to destroy my trade center when a load of traders were there, and all their stuff was left on the ground, all mine.

This is not a bug. When you do this, and the traders leave without their stuff, they get angry just as if you ceased their goods. It's not quite free as they can end up going to war with you.

It's not a bug in the sense that the consequences of getting the traders' items for free is imbalanced or anything, no. But it is a bug in the sense that getting the traders' items for free is not an intuitive and expected consequence of deconstructing a trade depot, and thus by implication (and more importantly), having to deal with angry traders is not an appropriate consequence to the innocent act of deconstructing a trade depot.
