As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Heh, sounds like it should be fun. If it isn't too cold to walk outside, it isn't easy enough!

But anyway, I'd love to be a noble, I've always wanted to be obnoxious.

Sure. Also, I'm not very good at writing, so don't expect the best of stories.

Granite the 1st as by Sigun Ducimtastrod, Axedwarf

Well, today I woke up in the wagon to angry voices. "Well? Can you fix it?" "We have no carpenters! I'm a mason. How am I supposed to fix this!" "Well why didn't we bring one!" "We're in a tundra. We have no trees, Vabok." "You will call me Caevin! And if we can't fix the wagon, we will build our fortress right here!" Zasit, one of the miners, hefted his pick. "You two! Soldiers! Guard our camp. Miners, STRIKE THE EARTH!"

Author's note : Soon after this, the miner's struck limonite and calcite. This is the author's first attempt at making steel. A while after this, the author found out he had a cavern, then a deep pit, then a cavern, then a downward passage, then adamantine.

The fort defense :
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A lever is pulled, pulling the bridge to disallow direct access. This forces enemys to walk along the long path, allowing our military time to attack. This also gives us an advantage against large enemy forces, as only a few soldiers can fight at the same time.

I'll claim one SalmonGod the Icefisherdwarf.  I also claim the first whip available to the fortress.  Try not to draft me until I can be equipped with a whip... and a fishbone helm.

Then give me someone - a mason for example - and order him to make mechanisms =)
