> Climb stair case, flail towards cat.
You're doing checks? I thought you were just doing "hey this would be an interesting thing to say". Neat!
When you first look up into the tower, it looks like the spiral staircase goes on for quite some time. However, once you make a full revolution going up it, you feel the plane shift around you. You look back quickly, noting that the staircase is still there, but the way to go up is on the other side of rectangular room you've been shifted into. If you couldn't have gone back down, you would have kicked yourself. Or rather, tailsmacked yourself. Outside the windows of the room there is a pale gray mist that blocks your vision of anything else outside. It's definitely not a plane you're familiar with.
The cat is, indeed, right around the two petrified orcs. It's a cat with blue hair, and a distinctive holy glow. The key, which looks roughly the right size to fit in your wing chain's lock, is dangling from a bow on its tail.
Naturally, Sanjeliza rushes over, and tears into it before it can do whatever it's been doing. The attacks leave grievous wounds that spread the cat's silvery blood around the room. It's definitely a celestial cat. The cat tries to resist, but it's quickly put out of its misery.
The key is retrieved, and makes a lovely clicking sound as the chains around your wings fall to the floor.
Freedom. There is a door blocking entry to the second stairway. Engraved on the door is a giant worm. The worm is striking down several eagles. The door appears to be locked. And made out of steel.
