Calculate gravity?
« on: February 01, 2011, 09:00:21 pm »

If I know the mass of an object, and the force affecting it in newtons, how do I convert that to G-forces? (I want the equation.)

what do you mean with "G-Forces"? Don't you already have the result if you know the force with which it's being pulled towards Earth?

If you want to express it in Gs instead of newtons, it would be a matter of dividing newtons between 9,8 I think.

I mean, it's not being pulled towards Earth. How many newtons are in one G? (Thats my question)

9.8
Wait... If 9.8 is the accereration due to gravity, wouldn't that answer be assuming the objects mass is 1? Or am I talking blasphemy?

Well, force is kgms-2, while g-force... is also kgms-2.  It's a straight, numerical conversion.

perhaps it would help to think of 1 g-force as being one earth gravity, its similar to AU, 1AU is one earth sized orbit.

Yes, I understand that 1 G is 1 Earth gravity. I also have figured out the problem. I no longer require assistance.
