Huh, I'll have to check out the combat chatter one.

Nexerellin does less to change how you play the game than it does how the AI plays the game. You can still go off on your own and make your own faction and colonies and whatnot. It's just that the AI now does diplomacy between the various factions and will actually attack/conquer/settle/etc the various worlds and stations out there. So far I'm enjoying it a ton!

As for other mods, I've got some portrait packs and some factions. Nothing beyond Nexerellin that changes the actual gameplay any.

i mod my games up and starsector is no exception. my long mod list:

Arsenal Expansion (does what it says, new weapons/ships)
Combat Chatter (for a little personality to your officers and ships)
Console Commands (honestly for fixing some stuff and minor cheats, like adding a stable location)
Dassault-Mikoyan Engineering (a faction, i like the look of their ships)
Diable Avionics (same as above, a faction)
Disassemble Reassemble (adds some ships)
High Tech Armada (adds some ships/weapons and i think a faction)
Junk Pirates (a faction)
Kadur Remnant (used to be part of a mod i'll list, but its a faction now)
LazyLib (a required library for some mods)
Luddic Enhancement (to give the ludd church and path some extra oomph)
MagicLib (another mod library)
Nexerelin (adds a ton of faction related features for endgame content, including the birth of some minor factions and some destroyed factions attempting to reestablish themselves)
Oga Portrait Pack (what it says it does, a portrait pack)
Outer Rim Alliance (a faction with broadsiding ships)
Ship/Weapon Pack (ships/weapons)
Skilled Up (makes it so its easier to reach high levels)
Stop Gap Measures (some ships and weapons)
Tahlan Shipworks (faction)
Underworld (ships/weapons and a super outlaw faction that will lay on the hurt early game)
Unknown Skies (for some planet variety)
Vayra's Sector and Ship pack (actually 3 mods, these two and that Kadur mod. i honestly cant remember what vayras sector does)
Version Checker (checks to make sure some mods are up to date)
GraphicsLib (ditto like the other libs)

Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to enable Underworld. The error message I get is "Fatal: JSONObject["role desc"] not found. Check starsector.log for more info."

I use Nexerelin, Unknown Skies, some factions (SRA, DME, DA, BRDY), and the required libraries. I'd probably use a few more factions, but it gets kinda annoying trying to remember what all these weapons are after a while, and the map gets crowded too.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

Somewhat of a solution for the crowded map is Grand Sector, which extends the dimensions of the map by 30%. The core itself still has a lot of stuff going on when you start adding lots of faction mods, but they don't encroach into unexplored space so much.

What, nobody's running Starship Legends? It's great. Adds evolving 'experience' for ships.

I haven’t done enough playing to have any of those things coming into effect. Yet.

We’ll see what happens to my own ships.

That reminds me, do you folks give your ships new names? And if you do, is there some pattern you like to follow (naming ships after stars, mythological/historical figures, etc)?

I recently started a few colonies and they've been getting hit pretty bad with Luddic Path cells, pirate raids and invasions from established factions, especially the Luddic Church. I need to create a fleet that is capable of combating powerful defence stations and large, high end fleets, but I don't really know what to build. Somehow, the pirates have got Onslaughts and Sunders of their own.
Spoiler: Ship List (click to show/hide)
I had been using Shrikes as point defences for larger, slower ships, but that is no longer working out now that the pirates somehow have capital ships, tons of Atlas superfreighters and worse.

after immense grinding, i usually am looking for a super ship to settle into while i begin nation building: this ship will inevitably be named "Emperor of the Skies" but this is dependent upon size. a smaller frigate might only get named "Prince of the Skies". i name my officers ships after birds of prey usually, but i modify it depending upon whatever name for my faction comes into my head. i based my last playthrough on the roman empire so i used roman imperial ranks.

You only have yourself to blame for this, you know.

It's because you sold the blueprints on the black market.

You know how you get the blueprints for a paragon, and it's worth something like 500.000, and you want to sell it with no tariffs? Well, don't do it.

do it, its free onslaughts and sunders. also, it keeps the pirates a challenge even when you can fortify your capital system with massive defense fleets.

Giving the pirates Paragons definitely made things more entertaining. It's nowhere near as boring as 20 Ventures in a row, that's for sure. They tend to save the good stuff for last, so after rolling through the chaff I get treated to a nice little boss battle. Considering how swole my economy's gotten, I could use the challenge.

Once the Big Zam Paragon is mass produced, I'll put an end to the Federation everyone in no time!
Oh hey, Big Zam.

I'm not sure you have enough Paragons there... and I'm hoping you modified the battle size you can deploy more then two at a time.
