Question: can we build outposts yet? Or do anything with survey data beside sell it?

After much exploration and many battles, I have 800k credits and a pretty good fleet of lesser D-mods, with a single small carrier I bought from a pirate base before promptly killing them all.

With a fleet of this size, I'm using up a lot of fuel and supplies, especially fuel, so I try to stick around in-system and hunt down pirates until I find a mission valuable enough to embark upon.

Ps: DEAR GOD, do NOT salvage abandoned starbases if you don't have tons of storage space! I got a good 2,000 (yes, 2k!) goods from salvaging one in a precursor system called Lenglota Forthanan (South of Magec). Found some debris, derelicts, remnant fleets I can kill easily with the correct tactics, and two abandoned starbases.

I ended up jetissoning it all, used 100 supplies to circularize its orbit so now it'll be there for roughly 100 days.

...Guess where I'm going back to now? ;)

Outposts are not out yet, no. Indication is that they'll probably be soon, though, if not next update then within only a few.

For now, you're stuck with whatever planets are already settled and your fleet. I'm not even sure if the NPCs can settle new planets yet.

I can't wait until they can :) Gives all new purpose and meaning to those survey fleets. I've noticed some ships I scavenge have data on them, which shows up in my mission log / fleet log tab. Gives hints about all sorts of interesting goodies...

Next update would be 0.8.1 (aka the update that fixes the thing some mods are waiting on), so def not that. We'll have market capturing back whenever dynasector updates, though.

thanks to comrade majestic's contest, i have tried this game.

holy crap, im loving it. its like this hardcore version of mount and blade, space pirates and zombies, and some other game on the tip of my forebrain but can't remember. I like the ally ai being smart with its tactics, i'm a big battlestar fan, so I have heavily armed and armored carriers for my fleet (2 shepherd class drone carriers and a mora strike carrier so far with a couple hammerheads). The carriers stay back and use the longrange guns i gave them to support their fighter compliments while the heavy armored hammerheads rush in and brawl.

anyone know which ship is the most like a battlestar? i mean, fully combat capable but also carries a few wings of fighters/bombers/drones.
I never watched battlestar galactica much to my shame (I hear it's good but havent gotten around to hunting for a service that has all the episodes on the cheap) but from your description it sounds like you may want an Odyssey Battlecuiser, or the new Legion Battlecruiser.  Odyssey is more firepower focused with only one wing, but lots of big lazers, while the Legion has 4 flight decks, but still enough guns to be dangerous in close range.  The Astral may work for you as well if you can find one, but that is more a supercarrier than a battleship and can only really be dangerous to frigates and light destroyers close up.

I'm looking forward to forming outposts and having the factions colonize... plus being able to meaningfully wage war on factions. I want to kill Luddites good.

Right now I'm rocking a fleet that so far beats everything, though I haven't tried my luck with remnant battlestations or major faction fleets. I'm actually on a positive relationship with all factions but pirates and luddites. None of my ships have D-mods. All carriers & hammerheads have officers.

My fleet is composed of:
Apogee (Flagship, scavenged)
2 x Hammerhead (Scavenged/bought)
2 x Mora (Both scavenged from pirate fleets!)
1 x Condor (Bought)
1 x Vigilance (Bought)
1 x Wolf (Scavenged, my pursuit flagship)
1 x Drover (Bought)
1 x Heron (Scavenged)
1 x Mule (Scavenged, my first scavenged ship kept for emotional attachment)
1 x Gemini (Bought)
1 x Shepherd (Starting ship, kept for emotional attachment)
1 x Wayfarer (Starting ship, kept for emotional attachment)
2 x Buffalo (Bought, modded with fighter bay though they never see battle)
1 x Prometheus (Scavenged, my second scavenged ship)

So far so good, I've gotten to the point where I have more then enough money that I'm funding my own exploration/salvaging missions. I've started poking the nearer Remnant systems and I just took down my first (damaged) Remnant battle station. I lost a Lasher doing so, but picked up 3 Alpha cores, which I know TT will throw all the money at me for. Currently I'm just grinding up my TT reputation so I can get access to their military market and start outfitting ships properly. My fleet has a definite lack of frigates, but carriers are covering that nicely - I just wish I could get some better designs then Broadswords, but I've found throwing 5 squadrons of those at remnant frigates also works, with enough patience.

Whoa, you killed a Remnant battlestation!?

What's your fleet composition, main weapons, and top skills?

I'm rich but weak :| I've got over 3 million credits but I've yet to find any ship worth buying, I've been in the fringe worlds dicking around looking for salvage and Remnants for way too long... Time to head home to the Hegemony coreworlds.

Nothing like being out exploring for [REDACTED] systems for loot when you get low on fuel and supplies and how that next system will have some good debris fields but you jump in and there are two large pirate fleets sitting on the jump point.

Two mora carriers, a eagle, a buffalo mk2, 2 falcons, and 15 frigates.  And all my paragon lead exploration fleet can say is "FOOOOOOOOD".

My fleet, which I am currently quite happy with.  The premise is that the backline carriers force the enemy to stand in fight, but the frontline ships are very good at standing and fighting.  The whole thing is also quite good at preventing the enemy from escaping and also at winning fights without ship loses, both important things in the hunting business:
Falcon XIV (flagship) x1
Enforcer x1
Sunderer x1
Brawler x3 (one of which is the TT variant)
Wolf x1 (purely to chase down fleeing enemies)
Condor x2 (one with fighters the other with broadswords)
Heron x1 (with two longbows and a dagger)
Gryphon x1

The Gryphon should get special notice for being a late addition but ending up as the hilarious pride of the fleet.  It has a single squall missile launcher and then 132 hurricane missiles in total, assuming it uses its active once all of its missiles have been expended.  Many of those missiles can fired simultaneously; seeing a cloud of blue missile trails all homing in on the same enemy is truly a sight to behold.  Entertainingly, despite being armed with no cannons except PD the Heron and Gryphon naturally like to form a ganking pack together and have actually been known to flank as a single unit, without me telling them to.  Its always worked out so far so I don't question it...

I'm still paranoid about keeping a large fleet sue to a hardcore mod that I used the last time I really played (about a year ago), but I'm absolutely loving my current loadout.

The Medusa feels like it got a bit of a nerf, and it's still made of glass, but a bit of clever piloting and it hits like a beast. The new ion pulsers you can loot off the hi-tech drones are phenomenal weapons, with excellent alpha-strike damage and hilarious EMP fallout.

I'm probably going to try and and go to a fighter-centric run soon, but I do love my running an agile flagship.

I decided upon the the legion battlecarrier, thank you for the advice, comrade greiger. I have the reputation with the hegemony to buy them, but now to grind the moneys.

Well, as I said it was damaged, not a fuuly functional death star. I'll post the full list tomorrow morning.

As for ships, don't hesitate to hit the black markets, that's where most of my military hulls have come from.

I took down a damaged station with a fleet of:
1 Dominator
3 Hammerheads
2 Condors (4 Spark wings)
2 Hounds

Had to recover two of the hammerheads, both hounds and a condor.  Typhoon Reaper launchers were the star of the fight.  Made roughly 720k off the AI cores I had gained from that trip.

Current fleet is:
1 Paragon (bought thanks to commission, armed thanks to remnant)
1 Dominator (salvaged from a fight with the church)
1 Mora (salvaged from a fight with pirate salvagers)
2 Hammerheads (all my hammerheads were salvaged, two in the same system)
1 Condor (old one was salvaged, new one was bought)
2 Hounds (salvaged)

I love to use the Dominator as my flag for pursuit.  It is a slow ship but it's speed boost allows it to keep up with almost everything else.  Nothing like a charging cruiser firing it's two cannons with 3 torpedoes racing in front of it.
Even once bulldozed a Hound when I rammed it with my shields.  It couldn't get clear cause I waited for it to waste it's 3 phase jumps to avoid one torpedo.  As it careened off it was followed by another torpedo that caught it just inside it's shield.  Probably one of the funniest ways to kill another ship, besides ramming a two Phaetons into each other causing a chain reaction when one takes a torpedo.
