No one else has reported this to my knowledge, but why the hell am I getting constant save corruption? Its driving me fucking NUTS, I had to scrap a level 20 with 300k and a good fleet because of it, and just lost my brand new save game too... Grr...
A. Are you running 0.8a-RC19? It has some load-game fixes the original 0.8a release does not.
B. Are you using the default jre folder or 64-bit java 7? If the latter, have you changed vmparams to use more RAM?

Thats the first things I could think of.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I'm running this on an outdated brick, so definitely no modifications to subsequent data files, RAM-inclusive.

To my understanding, I'm running the newest version. Or, at least, the one of this major release.

Since I had to delete my saves, I may as well attempt to reinstall the game.

Downloading .8 RC19... Uninstalled prior version and cleared all data files. Hopefully this will fix it.

Obviously D-mod salvage isn't as valuable as pristine ships, but the price multiplier means that the supplies you get from blowing them apart are often worth more...
This was the exact goal of the game design. The player should not want to have to haul back every last piece of crap ship that they recover from battle.
It's still overkill. To get paid for a ship you need to spend both fuel (which in most situations just means money) and time (which you could spend, I don't know, running fetch quests.) Even if D-mods just halved the price of the ship (that's on top of the 40% sale price) they would still not be a good primary source of income. Whereas now, you literally get more value from a ship by field striping it then from selling it (even if you didn't need the supplies/machinery, you'd still earn more by selling them. And paid tariffs) . That is weird enough that it kinda breaks your immersion.
Of course the final straw is that spaceports will easily sell you a D-hull for a fair price, they just one buy it for one. It's like there's a D-hull cartel operating across all the warring factions.

Well, if there isn't, there should be. Then you can murder the upper leadership and assume control, raking in that sweet d-hull moolah.

I like it.  If I salvage the ship I get usable stuff AND sellable stuff all with like 6 button presses.  If I take it back to the spaceport I gotta kit it out and make sure I have enough crew and, you know, visit a spaceport.  The optimal way is also more fun.  You only have to deal with the hassle of owning the spaceship if you actually want to own the spaceship.

Its the same reason I like the ridiculous tariff.  Does anyone in RL have a 30% tariff?  I don't know but if they do I imagine its a virtual ban on trade.  But it works in the game because similar games like this always hinge on finding a reliable trade route.  The game tells you, unambiguously and point blank, "that will never work."  You either have to go system to system to find missions/trade events, thus risking pirates, or you have to smuggle, thus risking the authorities.  You don't have the option of playing in an effective but tedious way.

Thank you.  That sounds like it should deal with running out of RAM during preloading two-thirds of the time.  (I'm trying this out ... fortunately it's a slow-twitch game so it's workable for cross-training the physical skills I need it to cross-train).

That moment when you enter a system for a scanning mission and

Fortunately for me I stored my fleet except a wolf and a dram and entered the system with the "going dark" command.  To get out without being seen I had to refit the dram in space to reduce its sensor signature.  With that the fleet's sensor profile was 64, which is basically invisible.

I love those big pirate fleets now that I have a couple of carriers. It seems they seriously underestimate my battle strength since half of the fleet is civilian ships. Always a nice source of booty and experience, those guys.

Whoever mentioned the bug fix release, thank you! As may be ascertained from my prolonged absence, reinstalling the game with the new bug-fix patch fixed the problem.

A few fun hours later, I have 3 destroyers, 2 carriers, a bunch of frigates, a fuel tanker, and a tiny salvage cargo ship, plus around 240k, with 700 cargo space, 995 fuel storage, only 1.5 supply per turn in maint thanks to skills, only 10 fuel per turn thanks to skills, 60 marines, a good 800 friggin crew, 5 fighter squads of differing builds, and another 200k worth of junk in my cargo holds.

Oh, wait. I totally forgot about that massive cache of weapons, 200 fuel, 150 supplies, 95 machinery, and gods know what else in the storage bay of...

...Uhh...

Crap. Which of the thousand planets did I stash it on again? >_<

...Also, got an AWESOME mission from Eos Exodus to scan a derelict in orbit of a dead stargate: turned out to be sitting in a MASSIVE debris field with 10 or so derelicts. I filled my entire cargo, fuel tanks, and had to trash a good 400 metal and a bunch of weapons. :| Also, for some reason, I found a derelict with 300 fuel in it? Wat.

I'm actually glad I restarted. This is by far my most entertaining playthrough!

Ps, from starting over 20+ times, I noted the tutorial salvaged ships are randomly generated, as far as D-mods go. One playthrough they were TERRIBLE. I refuse to ever use a ship with a busted engine, as it slows down my entire fleet. Got the short stick a few times and got rid of ships, but this time I got lucky and had minimal D-mods of fairly useless variety.

Also... D-mods are damn useful if they're merely structural. So wait, less hull integrity I can easily fix with a hull mod (blast door, etc), and LESS supply expenditure/CR recovery costs!?

Shiiiiet, I don't know if I even want a non-D mod of my mainline ships.

Derelict fuel tankers are great.

Theres a big-ol guide here thats existed for about as long as some of the mods have, if anyone else had memory problems.

Haven't played this game since version .5 or something around there.  So in the starting system- is the abandoned terraforming base supposed to be your "home"?  Why is the galaxy so gigantic now?

There isn't really much of a "home" in the game, but you can indeed store things at the abandoned terraforming base. Alternatively you can pay 5000 credits to buy storage at a market, which is generally preferable, unless you routinely go to Corvus for some reason.

It's still overkill. To get paid for a ship you need to spend both fuel and time...

Which is exactly why selling them is so unprofitable, so you don't have to pay the fuel and time. You can just tear them down and stick them in your Colossus or whatever and sell it off when it's convenient.

Would you really rather be forced to haul that Mudskipper MkII back with the fuel costs and manually ordering it mothballed, all while it takes up one of your 30 ship limit? Or would you prefer going back to the old days where salvage was rare as hell and trying to actually salvage the ship you want was wildly random and frustrating?

I mean, neither one of those things appeals to me as much as "here just automatically salvage it, you get more money that way and it's more convenient."

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

Man, I want to get big cool ships but don't want a commission, so I have to use the black market. But usually there's a ship patrolling.
So this is what I did last time:
  • Orbited a Church Planet that was selling this nice Eagle in the BM
  • Bought the ship, everything that wasn't nailed down to outfit it, until my suspicious was Super Mega Extreme
  • Bought storage space in the planet, stored all my ships and overflow cargo/fuel/crew except my starting Kite-A fighter
  • Ran away from 2-3 Church patrols, led them pretty far away, then went Dark
  • Went around, back to the unguarded planet, landed, took all my stuff and then left for the jump gate

I didn't actually have any illegal goods but I didn't want to take the reputation hit.

EDIT: By the way, my Eagle-class ship was named "Death to the Eagle".
