A little bugginess, but so far I haven't had any problems with it. It also throws you a bunch of free ships as well.
According to patch notes you get the same rewards if you skip it.

Well... I know what I'm playing today.

Edit: I may be mistaken since I haven't played in well over a year, but I remember there being an alternate control method before and I can't seem to find it anymore.
Are you looking for 'invert function of strafe control' or something like that? The toggle between turn the ship with A/D and hold shift to mouselook-strafe, and strafe by default and turn with shift held. Its still in the adv options.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I don't know what free ships you get (tried it twice, and it was buggy the second time. It may or may not have been buggy the first time, since the odd behavior I noticed turned out to be normal, but then the first phase of the tutorial is also oddly long. This was a longer aside then expected.)
Anyway, I don't know what free ships you're supposed to get, but you only start a non-tutorial game with your two ships from the starting choices and a decent stack of cash (quite a bit more than the 5k they gave you in 0.7)

Hmm, I'm actually finding the salvage/surveyor playstyle interesting. You need lots of crew to salvage ancient probes and stuff, so you need to fly a fleet of hulking transports instead of nimble attack craft. That is interesting since you have to avoid many enemies you could previously beat easily, till you make enough money to make a heavily armed exploration flotilla, I presume.

...the installer for starsector is less than 200mb. How is it taking 4+ hrs to download so little?

Worse yet, it fails after three hours of downloading.  >:(

Derp, yes, that's the thing. I saw "invert" and sort of just kept on going without reading the whole thing. Played too many space/flight sims with invert options I never use.

Has anyone else been getting a bug where you approach a planet with a fleet following you but then the fleet gets distracted  (I think that's what happens) and you're never allowed to land on the planet again? It just says "1. leave" in the menu forever. Even though you can trade with other planets just fine.
I had that twice tonight.

I came across a whole bunch of derelicts. The Cerberus and Mercury were recoverable, but the Astral wasn't. :(

'course if I did recover it, I'd have to pay to fix it...

Edit: Just found a Paragon. No longer complaining.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

Is there a way to get rid of those damaged hullmods? Does it cost little enough to make it worth it? I've only salvaged smaller craft so far, I think a Brawler was my largest and just sold them. I suppose I might keep a damaged freighter for hauling stuff if it had only battle-effective damage, though.

Theres a new button in the refit menu while docked for this.
It gives you a popup that tells you exactly how expensive it is (price rises per d-mod), and that its not likely to be worth it for just any random ship you found.

Also, theres been two hotfix releases already (current version is R19), and most of the utility mods (plus one faction mod, ORA) are updated.

Has anyone else been getting a bug where you approach a planet with a fleet following you but then the fleet gets distracted  (I think that's what happens) and you're never allowed to land on the planet again? Pretty sure that was one of the things fixed in the most recent hotfix.

Should I take survey data someplace (like AI cores) or will just selling them be enough to see some colonization effort?

Speaking of which is there any real point in surveying planets?  The ~1000 credits per survey does not seem worth it at all.  I'm not even certain it's worth the cost of fuel flying out to the ass end of the sector to survey.

Depends on the planets you survey, shit planets with hardly any minerals are indeed not really worth surveying, but occasionally you'll come across a higher class one, which can be worth a lot of money (class 4 is worth ~50k, iirc).

Pretty sure just sell them at the moment, colonization isn't implemented.
