Have you tried doing some of the missions with decent time limits from the stations? I made about 20k in profit out of of carrying 50 heavy machinery one system over within 30 days.

...Did not know you could get missions from stations. In vanilla, I'm just harassing small groups of pirates and selling what cargo comes from the encounters. It's a somewhat decent way of getting money, but it's kind of slow.

The missions are new with the rest of the update, I think. Look at the new 'open comm directory' option. (its the same option you use to turn in these missions too)
And while I've seen a couple little utility mods update already (Lazylib, simulator overhaul, common radar, autosave), everything is either in need of repair or no ones tried it and said so yet, so this is in vanilla for certain.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Have you tried restarting, updating java, disabling mods, etc?

Yes. I even installed it in a whole new folder. :( I click the .exe and literally nothing happens, not even a crash notification or anything. Guess I have to open a thread in their forum.

Oh wow. Apparently I was playing a version behind what's currently out. Just updated...and not really liking the lack of movement upgrade skills, the way enemies like to just pop out of nowhere and gank you, and the green guys who extort you at every opportunity.

Finding it a lot harder to make money now.

I think I made a mistake by starting as a bounty hunter, it seems the procurement missions are the way to afford your second ship nowadays. I guess I'll restart as a merchant when I play this again. Kind of funny, I actually got two salvageable ships but had no marines at the time. Then when I spent 9k on marines, I no longer got any salvageable ships as loot. :D

Is it feasible make money as a merchant? How do you deal with tariffs or the rep loss from dealing with the black market?

I haven't had the chance to play yet; I thought that I'd start as a merchant, do the procurement missions enough to buy a destroyer and then start killing people. I have no idea if tariffs are paid for mission fees, I suspect that they are not.

No tarrif shows up in the mission dialogue. You simply lose [target cargo] and gain [credit reward]. And also get a rep point or two with the recipient. Though right now you don't get any trade xp either (someone brought it up on their forums though), and one time I had a significant pirate fleet (6-7 ships, mainly frigates vs my wolf & lasher) show up in hyperspace and demand the cargo, though they didn't manage to catch either of us (they did beat the bloody hell out of the lasher though, I'd just bought it damnit! Don't smash it yet!)

Yeah, procurement missions are the way to go for money. Started as merchant, did a simple supply run, made 40k. That is more than I made with the bounty hunter start I played for several hours yesterday. I guess this is a placeholder for mission and eventually we will get combat missions too, at least I hope so.

I'd assume combat missions are bounties, though I could be wrong.

Oh sure, bounties are ok, but I was thinking more along mission-based content more interesting than hauling cargo. Escorting ships, engineering a food shortage to a planet, raiding shipments, doing false flag attacks, stuff like that. I'm sure the mission system will get fleshed out in the future though and this is just the framework for advancement.

I started as bounty hunter and made my early money doing the pirate bounty that is already in effect in Corvus when you start. I did some other missions too, but for the most part my money was from pirate killing.

Now I just do whatever I can find as a job - fly to do bounties and grab cargo missions as I go.

Boarding for profit isn't viable at all with the cost of marines and losses now. I sent 50 marines against 5 crewmen and lost 10 marines just to get a D class hound (which I could have bought for 7200).
