Spoiler (click to show/hide)
First time I fought a medusa, I really didn't get a good look at it before it died.
I fight loads of sunders, not really annoying; destroyers in general tend to use up all their flux capacity on shots that have no chance of hitting before I blow them up.
And those cloaking thingies are annoying, but not nearly as annoying as the one that teleports behind you.

Does anyone know where the Tri-Tachyon shipyards are? I looked up their ships on the codex and I want to try them.

The Medusa is particularly bad for AI; it relies on hit-and-run skirmishing, which the AI sucks at.

My rule for boarding is: not unless I want to keep the ship/it's super expensive.

Theres Tri-Tach shipyards in Magnor system? (probably misspelled it). They've got the light blue icons.

I checked everything in Ragnor and there wasn't a shipyard anywhere.

Also, first battleship kill!

That's what happens when something is slow, flies like a rock, has virtually no rear-facing weapons and a front shield, and doesn't have swarms of allies to stop things from hovering behind it.

Ok maybe I'm just a scrub but I know Wolves are absolutely kickass...

But WTFBBQ how did you defeat ALL OF THAT with only a single wolf frigate?  I could beat that fleet too, but I would take heavy losses, and then you walk up and wipe them out like nothin.

Spoiler: My fleet for reference (click to show/hide)

But WTFBBQ how did you defeat ALL OF THAT with only a single wolf frigate?
Three important factors:
1: At one frigate, you'll have 100% combat readiness, which makes all your attributes 10% better - as well, you've probably got maxed combat skill, so those 10th level bonuses to things like damage, shield mitigation, speed, etc...
2: Missiles in the newest version hit like a fucking truck.  I forget the name, but I run the ship with a medium energy and a medium missile, and can hit the 'fast missile reload' to throw 12 harpoons in 3 seconds, and they'll pretty much take down anything short of a cruiser.  Using torpedoes (4,000 damage with +1 ammo for 5th level missile skill, and 6,000 damage at 10th level missile skill) you can just shred capital ships by getting in close and letting fly.
3: Sequential fighting is in favor of the player.  Hop in, throw missiles, take down 2-3 ships, escape.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Now there's just like 2 badly damaged frigates and 1 battleship and that's an easy fight with torps.

The wolf is HIGHLY maneuverable, so getting behind ships with front shields means throwing torps down their tailpipe and knocking off like half their hull with one hit, while being so zippy that the medium guns can't even touch you.

Honestly, my favorite was the cloaking ship with 4 forward light universal mounts.  With 2-3 blasters and full flux vents, it's entirely possible to phase through an enemy, pop out the other side, and throw a cluster shot at their rear, able to re-cloak so fast they can't get shots in.  If it didn't hit hull, then it probably overloaded their shields, and a single torp mount would have no trouble hitting an overloaded capital ship.

Really in the hands of a good player, agile ships are just terrifying, even moreso when you start getting the passive skill upgrades for agility and speed and armor - even when they do hit you, it doesn't hurt as much.

The vigilance is the frigate with med energy and med missile.

Yes, running a harpoon pod and a pulse laser is pretty decent.  It can overwhelm shields fairly well, and the missiles have decently long range and hit hard against things slightly larger than frigates.  I usually run in, throw a salvo or two at each enemy, see what dies, clean up a bit with the laser if something is really close to dead, then jump out to reload, and re-engage.  Whittling down the enemy is devastatingly effective.

Missiles weren't weak before either, it's just hard to field them in great numbers.  If you ever want to try something hilarious and you don't care about salvage, try pilum spam.

I definitely remember turning off ammo being good for a laugh when it came to missiles et al. All spam, all the time~

Well, exactly, except that pilums have 9000 range or something and tons of ammo already.

Yeah, the name of the game with single-ship tactics is attrition fighting. Pop a few, then escape for more ammo, rinse and repeat.

I was thinking that the nukes weren't so good against small ships, but I tried a Vigilance with a torp rack and a repeating laser.  With 8 in missiles and the expanded mag and ECCM, I get 9 torps and they have a faster fire rate than certain large ballistics.  I can usually let my repeater deal with enemy shields and then pop them with a torp, or on lesser shielded foes just throw a torp at them direct.  Against larger foes, it's a matter of torp to down shields, fast missile rack to reload, and another torp against naked hull.  The rotary pulse laser is also great at dealing with fighters or wolves or other frustratingly maneuverable things.

What's your setup and battle plan with your Wolf?
