Hmm i kinda hope they base the economic model on the X series but with planetary populations (and equipement) put instead of space factories.... maybe adding mining stations as an extra.

You know planet X procuces food, planet Y needs food and ore to produce component A that has to be used along component B (from planet Z) in order to create product C that can only be assembled at planet Z+1.

This way there is a production chain in place and therefore trade routes between planets in the chain.
Also since food is universally used on all planets there would be a safe but not as profitable trade route for beginners.

I think faction management is where this game will shine, when you can make your own faction and have the whole sector to explore and conquer. That or the exploration element, depending on how far they go with it. I think the economic management will likely be pretty basic, but who knows... it could really go anywhere from here.

I'm holding out until we can explore more than one solar system. (we can't do that yet, right? or I missed an update?)

EDIT: D'oh... it's in the changelog. One system? Well, at least it means more can be modded in.

It's a good update. I don't think the hyperspace system is very robust, though, with other fleets flying around... I'm not sure how it'll be applied to a massive number of systems without getting overloaded. Having you actually control the fleet in it is neat, but there's a reason why that stuff is usually abstracted out in games with large scale exploration. Some of the new ships look interesting. Anyone try the repair rig thing?

Er, shouldn't the title be changed? It's called Starsector now. Anywho, I've been a regular of that community since the game was in the earlier stages. They're actually the reason why I discovered Bay12 (that and I was looking for a Paranoia group to play with).

Gotta love those new sounds. There's plenty of bugs in this new version but it seems they're getting sorted out at light speed. They've got a dedicated community over there.

You know what's cool? If you play with a subwoofer, you can actually feel it when an Onslaught is on the screen. That's just awesome.

I'm liking this update quite a bit. THe interface looks pretty good, the strafing works better, and we aren't stuck in only one system!

I miss that bug where you could maintain top speed with flux/shields/weapons firing by releasing 'w'. It's one of those things that you know probably shouldn't be in the game and isn't going to last, but it was just so much fun.
